"We are coming almost to the conclusion of my personal arguments, and message from the Bible, that I have gleaned."

Sounds to me like you have come here to preach and your mission is almost done. I suggest you go to www.randi.org and try your sermons on them next. Thanks for stopping by and reminding me why I'm a devout athiest!

Committee For Scientific Dishonesty

Excuse me but his book publisher can not be the 'peer reviewer'. This book has turned Bjorn Lomborg into a laughing stock. Another case proving that anything can be stated through statistics.

I know you probably haven't read the book and like your 'local' hero but check out some other sides of the argument and his responses also...

Minimum accessories for C9.25?

As far as eyepieces go, don't forget to consider a zoom eyepiece. A good zoom eyepiece could keep you busy while you collect the cash to upgrade your collection. If you keep it in good condition people usually snap them up on Astromart rather quickly.

How to make an artificial star?

Posted By Mark Bernhardt

I poked a bunch of holes in tin foil and held the sheet up to the light. I found the smallest good quality hole, cut out that section and put it over a Rayovac 3AAA LED flashlight. Tape all the way around and done. I get good diffraction patterns on both sides of focus at about 150 feet. The flashlight even comes with a little clip holder so I can clamp it on stuff!

10" plus SCT for Planets?

I once read (probably here)that the 9.25 has a longer focal length primary. Longer focal length mirrors are easier to repeatedly manufacture with good quality.

Digital Zoom

Posted By Mark Bernhardt

Some cameras use what is called interpolation to get resolution levels higher than what the CCD chip is capapble of. It is like binning but the camera tries to guess what color and brightness the generated pixel should be.

I am sure that Photoshop can zoom in and smooth an image better than any digital camera given enough skill. I like the camcorders that say 4x optical and 30x digital zoom. When you zoom in all the way the view is like 16x16, utterly worthless.

Removing a diagonal from epoxied mount

Posted By Mark Bernhardt

Thanks floyd and others for the help!

I wrapped the mirror as Floyd said then used a coping saw to cut as close to the mirror as I could. I then gently sanded the back down flat with 80 grit. There is a tiny bit left on there but it is of no consequence.
