Re: Effective management--advice needed (LONG)

Posted By Andrew Settimio

Janet,

Seems to be alot of good advice.

It may very well wind down to

"Is the job you."
"I'm I happy with it."
" Do you beleive in what you can do, but mangement does not understand your style."

I am a partner in a firm and have a casual style. I could not work in some situations and I had to start my own firm to get the fit. I started out in a great firm that as long as the bottom line was met, Upper management left me alone. They were eventually bought out and I had to report to a retired army cornel. It was far from my style to his style. I was miserable. Reports, making problems where they did not exist, politics....it was awful and I felt trapped. After that, I work at a few firms, thinking I could fit in. But could not deny who I am.

You may not be able to change who you are to fit into a what a different management wants.

Is the job worth it? Does it fit your Goals? Can you use it to learn a different skill set and then move up, or go into something where you can set the tone?

Don't compromise on who you are, if you can get it to work great, if not, maybe it was not meant to be.

I initally took a 40% pay cut to set myself up for
living life on my terms. I now live almost exactly were I have always wanted, making money, and in the group I merged with (I started my own firm and then sold it) I told them what I would do, and got signed assurances that as long as the numbers added up, there would be no problems. I set the tone, but I also back it up with good finacials.
It's great to go the office in shorts, and take the group fishing on my boat, or to lunch after a intense cycle. We even have fun with Overseas firms from India that call us for subwork( pretending we can't understand them and then twist there mispronuciations to mean funny things.).

Be true to thyself. Anything is possible, don't get hemmed in.

Was their oil in Bosnia, Serbia,
S. Korea, Greneda, EL Salvador.....

They were probably listening to Wild Caters who were only speculating in those countries and were led astray. We still have armed forces in Korea, Japan, Italy, and Germany, some other places. They must be looking for oil there. They must be using the Bible to find oil instead of Geology and are looking at dry holes in those countries. Those crooks!

How many black/white politicians and cililians were killed during the reconstruction of the south after the civil war. I read over a thousand in 6 years.

How much more violence erupted years later.

Maybe as high as tens of thousands.

Should we have stopped? Was the effort of the war worth it?

Who was better for America, J.P. Morgan or Samuel

Who was better for America, J.P. Morgan or Samuel Gompers?

One was finance, the other labor. Which contributed most to America?
I'm espically interesed in Rick and Alexanders perspective.

A (cold) opinion on the Schiavo issue

Posted By Andrew Settimio

My wifes Grandfather died last year, He was in his 70's and ready to go. He wanted to go to heaven to be with God. He was in a declining health state but his body was still salvageable, indefinitely. Before he collapsed into a coma, which he had recovered from several times before, he made it clear -DNR. They did not try and he died. His wife, let him go, it was not hard for him to leave. He is in a better place.

He was a religious man, his life goal was to be with God.

Why, if Schiavo parents are religious, do they not let her go? Is this not the reward Christians hope for, to be reunited with God? I can't help to feel there may be the nightmare of a soul trapped in a shell wanting to go, just like my wifes grandfather, but her family won't let her go. She is inprisioned in a body she cannot control, (no guarantees she is not in pain or severely depressed) wanting to go to her real home.

I wonder if her parents are stuck, not realizing that they are using Terri as living tombstone that they can visit(the cold part). I know of others who swear they still talk and visit with departed loved ones. Emotionally attached and unwilling to let g, to someone who is no longer there. Are her parents interfering with her soul's desire to go home to God? Are Christians not strangers in a strange land? Did not Paul(Apostle) himself want to be reunited with God, but felt required to stay for the Gospels sake?

My hope is she has already left, and does not have the the nightmare of being a pawn, between husband and family. Let them visit a grave that does not have a heartbeat, while a soul seeks it's final destination. I just wish there was a a easier method for the body to cease, other then dehydration.

If Terri Schiavo can go to a better place......

Posted By Andrew Settimio

If Terri Schiavo can go to a better place......Why not let her go? Why keep her here? There is no guarantee she is not in pain or massively depressed. This would not be suicide, though suicide is not expressly forbidden by scripture anyway. Even Jesus gave up his life by his own descion. He did not try and save himself.

My own feeling is she has left, and is in a better place. The family is merely maintaining a living Tombstone to visit, to remember her, and feel some selfish connection with there departed love one.
( Very Cold Opinion I know)

Paul ( apostle ) wish to depart himself but felt he had a mission to do, I have been to many Christian funerals where the departed was said to be in a better place, is this not the Christian belief? Why not let here go for her own good, for a short while, to be reunited in a whole state for the long term in eternity?

What if her soul is still imprisoned? Why won't here family let her go to a "better place"?
One friend of mine claims she is not saved (since she is catholic) and the lord is using this as a means to really save her and her family. Though her confession and immersion will be difficult.

Where in Christian scriptures is the sanctity of life manifested? Is this a verbal teaching only?

This is the whole problem with the government being the source of benefits and financial security

I'm actually a victim of Ivan. I suffered $75,000 worth of damage and was reimbursed by private insurance $62,000. FEMA was trying to give me money, but i turned it down. I did not claim false damages as many of my niehbors, who capitilized on the diaster.

I had enough fuel (150 gallons, 150 lbs of ice and provision to feed a army ( I feed and gave fuel to my employees for 10 days). Those who were not heeding warning, which were many, where unprepared and crying to the government.

The Red Cross was giving away $2000 M/C check cards and immediately families were devising schemes to the system of one card per house hold. The poorer family are more adapt at circumventing these systems (my sister works for social service and saw first hand the abuse).

Many people where under insured to save money and now demand more then they were insured for because " they need it". I pay very high premium because I check every year to verify my risk level. I will now be assessesed a one time fee to cover there loses that they did not cover themselves.

When the government is the source of a benefit, it is more likely to be squandered, mis allocated, or be pillaged by fraud, due to the feeling of the "someone must pay" attitude of the public, and the real world inefficiency of buearcracy.
The governemtn must do something! I cannot take care of myself!

Sorry my friend, you are barking up the wrong tree, it is the system and big government that is the problem, not an administration. FEMA is a bueacracy that must justofy its exsistence.

Markus,

How are OEM binoviewers made. From your review, they may be
just mass OEM binoviewers made to a VAR spec.

Are binoviewers from each VAR unique or mass produced to a
common specification from a common source?
