AR10667

Posted By Christopher Go

Hello,

Just imaged AR10667 (aka 649) and I was able to catch a tiny flare.

I used Paul Hyndman's Pseudo Flat to process this image! Imaged with Coronado Solarmax 60 on an AP130EDF refractor. Toucam webcam was used.

Uranus

Posted By Christopher Go

Hello,

Here's one of my first image of Uranus taken on Sept 23. Seeing was around 6/10. I used my C8 working at around f/25 and my Toucam to image this. I stacked and manually selected 1200 frames with 2X resampling. I had to do a dark subtract to reduce noise as I was already using 80% gain at 1/5 sec exposure.

I guess, I really need a bigger scope to get a decent image of Uranus.

Chris

Re: The Church Councils around 200 - 300CE

Posted By Christopher Go

Hello Bill,

I don't think that the Church was such a monolithic structure then. There was great positioning between the bishops of Alexandria, Constantinople and Rome.

To top it all off, the Church was under s great stress brougth about by the Arian Heresy. In fact, most of the powerful people were Arians. Constatine himself was very favorable to the Arians during the Council of Nicea.

Plus you have a Church spread out from Spain to India. In fact, the Church of India was basically cut of from the rest of quite some time. For the change to be done you have to go through all the literature spread out all over the know world then. This is not a simple task 1800 years ago. Yet the Church in India (St Thomas Christians), stil retain everything that the Church taught.

The talk that Constantine ordered the Church to change things to do his will is not logical as the Church was wary of the Roman Authority during that time. After going through hundreds of years of persecution and a lot of false hopes, the Church would not easily change her doctrine at the whim of an Emperor. In fact, the Church members would be willing to die to go against that change. And their fear wasn't unfounded as Constantine's son Julian the Apostate restarted the persecution after he took over!

This really reminds me of what happened last night. I was giving a talk on Astronomy to High School students when the topic of the Apollo Hoax came out. A couple of student started the usual barrage that the whole Apollo program was a hoax. I explained to them that there were hundreds of thousands of people involved in this project. And if it were a hoax one of these guys would have made the expose. Well one student said that all these guys were paid of $1M each to shut up. I explained to them that America cannot come up with that kind of money as it even has Trillions in debt. One of the student stood up and said, "Excuse me sir, America is so rich that it can buy the whole world if it wants." Sometimes misunderstandings and misconception can give us a very clouded view of history.

Regards,
Chris
