The Car I Loved and Lost

Posted By Edd Weninger

Had a '70 in about 1973 or so. Neat little car. Digger Orange with AR alloy wheels like yours. Used to cruise at 90-100 on I-40 making gas-stop-only ski runs from SoCal to Crested Butte CO and back. Fun trying to keep it straight where clear ice had formed on the overpasses at night...........

SCT Image Shift Solution

"...I also use the helical focuser when I want to mimic the waves of defocus in Aberrator. I can do it easily now since I know the thread pitch (12). One turn is .083" of defocus and if my calculations are right this comes out to 4.79 waves..."

The approximate wavelength of green light (550 nanometers) is 0.00002165 inches so one turn of your focuser would be 3,849 waves.

Canon 20Da USB malfunction: repair or lost cause?

Posted By Edd Weninger

I have had the same problem since I got my 20Da new. I think I screwed up the original software installation and never obtained the correct communication protocol. My understanding is you need the correct 'twain' in the computer and the camera. Prior, and still, the installation with my 10D works OK.

I was advised to download and install the camera firmware upgrade from the Canon website. I did not do this as I only have dial-up. But you may want to look into it.

Good luck,

help choosing a heady duty tripod for Celestron Cl

Posted By Edd Weninger

If you can find an older "locked triangle" Celestron tripod it is very sturdy and will fit the wedge you have. I had one back in the day and liked it very much.

GPS and AP1200

Posted By Edd Weninger

Enter your GPS co-ordinate data into the AP1200 keypad once. It saves the location internally. You can enter multiple locations if you view from different sites that are widely seperated.

Enter the time once. The keypad will keep it up to date until the battery discharges (about 10 years).

No need for an external GPS that I can see.

If you're in the market, you may want to jump now.

I'm glad others see the new Meade Coronado filters the way I do. I'm looking to getting me a Solarmax 90 filter and BF15 for my TV-85 / TSA-102 this year. I still have my Cemax eyepiece set, which was a nice compliment to the SM 60 I had before.
As least Mexico is North America. Ive always liked Meade ED refractors, though I'm not a fan of their SCT's.

Actually, the Meade Ha scopes are now made in Mexico. I have the SolarMax 90 and it works well. Pre-Meade were certainly not better, at least in the PST scopes. Meade inherited the "rust" problem from the original Coronado.
