Here is where I'd do critical listening, but don't need to do critical listening much lately, that can't be done with Etymotics earbuds.

It is messy and dusty. A couple of years ago I actually tidied up before taking the picture . You wouldn't want to see it when it is normally messy. The picture is curved because it is a hand-stitched-together panoram. One of these days will get around to remodeling the studio.



About 25' square ugly-but-effecitvely sonically treated room. JBL-Urie power amp, JBL near field studio monitors, 12" powered subwoofer under the desk.

The computers and monitors in the pic are antiques. Moved the computer workspace out of the shop into the house so the dawgs don't get lonely.

Cab containing turntable, headphone distribution system, three cassette dup decks, CD player, antique Sony PCM-501 converter + 2 beta decks for pre-computer, pre-DAT digital stereo recording.

Left bottom rack-- Removeable drive carts, power amp, mac keyboard tray, Right bottom rack-- Antique Yamaha TX-816 MIDI Synthesizer. Computers on the floor in-between.

Desk-- Mackie 16 channel mixer, Carvin 12 channel mixer, pc keyboard, Kawai K-5m synthesizer, Yamaha KX-88 controller keyboard, Hammond XB-2 organ, 2 Ensoniq Keyboard synthesizers.

Left top rack-- Furman parametric EQ, Dynamics processors, Sony DAT recorder.

Middle racks behind monitors-- Patch bays, speaker switchers, realtime analyzer.

Right top rack-- MOTU 8 channel MIDI Interface, MOTU 8 channel Audio interface, assorted digital FX, assorted rack-mount synthesizers.

Peeking out the right-hand corner, a set of Remo drum practice pads retrofitted with homebrew piezo transducers, driving an Alesis MIDI drum controller.

Interesting. So if 2010 turns out surprisingly cool, will a warming trend "never be talked about again"? Or does it only work one way?

If the tall versions of the Dodge Sprinter van didn't cost over $40,000, I'd be tempted to buy one. Pretty vehicles.

It offers a way to create jobs and also get some of those promised Medicare savings.

Rather than collect $20 a day praying for one patient, I'd collect $20 a day for thousands or millions of patients. I would pray real hard for all of em at the same time. Would confidently guarantee that my mass-prayer service will be research-validated to be equally effective as any other similar prayer service ANYWHERE at any price.

Borrowing an idea from Tibetan prayer wheels, it could be automated and scaled up to worldwide effectiveness. Tibetan prayer wheels move much too slow, but modern prayer wheels could be designed around powerful nuclear steam-turbines, cranking out the prayers at zillions of prayers per second!

Alternately, it could be a new green industry. Micro-engrave tiny prayer text on the blades of inexpensive high-RPM computer fans, and run big banks of them from solar, wind, or geothermal power.

Or we could just hire out prayer placement on the turbine blades of industry-- commercial power generation, commercial airline jets, even military jets and helicopters and 18 wheeler semi trucks.

It would be much less expensive than paying for real operations and real prescription meds, putting Medicare in a much better financial shape, deliverins BHO's Medicare savings.

Bear droppings are also a good identifier.
Black bear droppings can be identified by their relatively small size, and the presence of undigested berries and the bones of small rodents.
Grizzly bear droppings can be identified by their large size. They will often contain small bells and smell of pepper spray."

I hadn't bought any MP3's until a few months ago. Had an attitude about it. Haven't pirated any either. Mainly ripped my own CD's and dubbed old vinyl then ran declick/denoise software on it.

It seems like the best old vinyl albums from the good old days got loaned to friends and never returned, so I bought a few oldie-moldy albums MP3 from Amazon. The Amazon audition/buy mechanism was painless and the Amazon downloader works great in the background after you buy, and the price didn't seem bad to me.

I also have an attitude about apple store, and won't buy ANYTHING copy protected. Supposedly apple has started removing copy protection from some of their stuff, but its just a long love-hate relationship with apple. I mean, Amazon ain't my friend either, or my enemy, but I've got enough long-held grudges against apple that I won't buy ANYTHING from them unless they are the only source.
