Stuck in my head !!!

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

I was looking for IRS forms and ran across a comment from someone here in Silver City. I try (with limited success) to avoid using cheap name games in this forum, but after reading that post what I think when I see GOP has changed forever. Now when I see GOP I will be thinking GOPorker. 8O

Re: Apathy

We know that the war will be over soon.

Remember, years ago, Jim, when I said Iraq would be a quagmire and that after the Bush economy crashes, there would be a bounty on Republicans?

You can thank George for giving you a liberal, Black President.

Fat lady math

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

I can hear the fat lady warming up her vocal cords.

Right now Obama has a lead of 171 pledged delegates. If Florida delegates were counted she would pick up 44 more delegates than Obama. If Clinton got 55% of the Michigan delegates and Obama none, she gets another 70. If she wins the remaining 217 delegates 60% to 40% she gets another 43 delegates more than Obama. That is a total of 157 delegates which is not enough to catch Obama.

If the superdelegates go against the pledged delegates that is the end of the Democratic party. It just won't happen.

What do you think of the stuperdelegate vote process that the Democrats have? Should the Republicans come up with their own version of this process?

Is this the way democracy should work (especially by a party of people who call themselves Democrats)?

Then you read about how at least one of the cigar smoked room voters is publicly saying that their vote is up for sale. Here is a link:

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080507/D90H0F203.html

What about the Democrats proportional vote process versus the winner take all approach that the Repubs use? Which is better? Should one change to the others approach?

For me the Democrats have provided fun on so many levels with this election cycle. I hope it continues right into their convention. If Hillary refuses to bow out and fight it out on the convention floor, what do you expect the impact on their party to be?
The superdelegate system needs to go.

The proportional vote system is MUCH better than the Republican winner take all system. With the Republican system 49.99 percent of the voters in a given State can be dismissed as if they didn't matter at all. Much like nearly half the voters in the country have been ignored by our hero Geroge.

Walking to the shops ‘damages planet more than going by car’. That is the conclusion of an environmentalist researcher. We all know that it must be true since researchers lack bias and only report the facts.

Now that a researcher has come out with the truth, should we all start driving again, or should we take their advice and just be couch potatoes? What does this research really mean for us now? I am really curious to read what other environmentalists have to say about one of their kindred spirit.
A lifetime in military "intelligence" and the best you can do is offer "science" from a politician with a bone to pick. No wonder we are in Iraq.

For your information:

1. A bicycle is much more efficient than walking.
2. Bicycles are not a new invention.
3. Not everyone is on an all beef diet. They even eat potatoes in the UK.
4. We could free ourselves from dependence on oil if we could harness the energy in all the hot air that you and those like you put out. grin

Re: Hypersensitive concern about assassination

Hilary made a statement about the Robert Kennedy assassination, and the hypersensitive once again read more IMO into it than was intended.

Which do you think is more likely:

a) The Clinton Machine is signaling to their dirty trick squad operatives to kill Obama.
b) Hillary is hoping that there are a lot of wacky racists out there, and she is staying in the race hoping that with a little nudge one of them will kill her political opponent.
c) The hypersensitive racist left once again is playing the race card by twisting Hillary's words hoping that people are stupid enough to fall for yet another one of the victimization campaigns.

Jim, you missed the crux of the matter.

Hillary showed extremely bad judgment when she said that one reasons that she stayed in the race was because Robert Kennedy was assassinated in June. There have been death threats made against Obama and many are worried that a bullet will end his bid to be President. Her statement could easily be construed by some nut to mean "Support Hillary, kill Obaba."

She made this statement in the middle of the day, I can't imagine what she might say if the phone rang at 3AM.

We're Saved!

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

I was listening to CNN while McCain made a speech at a town hall meeting. He is going to stop pork barrel spending on unnecessary projects. The first thing he mentioned is that he will not spend $3 million on DNA testing of bears in Montana. Wow! That will really help!

He didn't mention a thing about the cost of his favorite unnecessary project, the Iraq war. $3 million will fund the Iraq war for about 13 minutes.

Re: Latest assessment from Iraq

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

All fine and good, Jim, but how many times have we "defeated" al Qaeda? How many times have we won the war in Iraq? How many times have been told "Mission accomplished!" With the track record of this administration any statement they make must be taken with a grain of salt.

This administration has "cried wolf" too often. Even trusted insiders say that they manipulate and distort intelligence to suit their purposes.

Unlike Bush, I believe that Obama will get the facts before he makes a move.
