So, now the NY TIMES is not fake news?

Color me skeptical since it seems impossible to believe that Mexico implemented any meaningful solution to curb migrant flow in less than a week. Color me even more skeptical the problem is solved. It's way more complicated than a simple crackdown will fix.

From the article:

But their recent enforcement efforts aside, Mexican officials admit that their southern border is highly porous, with thousands of migrants slipping across every month through hundreds of known illegal crossings.

Along the Suchiate River, which marks part of the border between Mexico and Guatemala, scores of rafts cross within view of an official border bridge. Made of wooden planks lashed to tire inner tubes, they float back and forth throughout the day, openly carrying undocumented migrants, local residents and black-market goods.

According to the raftsmen, the recent crackdown by the Mexican authorities has not affected their illegal traffic. Marvin Garcia, a veteran raftsman, said that at just the crossing he works, more than 150 undocumented migrants had crossed during a recent two-day period.

As for the Mexican border patrol and other security forces, “they spin through from time to time, nothing more,” he said, adding, “They don’t do anything.”

I saw no one claim it is the cure all, certainly not the article either......Bottom line is it would appear it generated a  positive response by Mexico or there would have been no reason for the article.....

But your spin was expected smile

My spin is from the article you cited as evidence that the tariffs were working. Jeez, just admit you didn't RTFA and move on.

Once again, you are just harping on and on about something that is of really no consequence to be an abusive and toxic person because it is just who you are. Apparently, you just can't help yourself, which is quite sad.

It's not me asserting it. It's the conclusion of the CRS report on the 2017 tax cuts:

Trump's Solved the Border Crisis: Time to Pour Up A Cold One

Now, not having read the stuff from Rich, because I don't have to since I already know what he'll say anyway, I'll just sit back and let him revel in his victory...

It's typical Trump. Manufacture a crisis that plays well with the base using inept bungling in the form of unnecessary threats and temper tantrums. Solve the manufactured crisis by only returning things to the status quo. Claim the status quo is a victory. Put out a tweet demanding praise for saving the day and whine about how underappreciated you are.

IT Was All BS, They Reached A Deal Back In March...

And now Trump is claiming Mexico is going to have jobs for the illegal immigrants, too. Even the Cons on this forum should Mexico can't supply enough jobs to its own citizens, let alone illegal immigrants from central America...

It's all just, so Trumpian isn't it? Why even tweet all the empty threats and manufacture a crisis that doesn't exist? Does anyone believe that anything is gained from it all other than somehow it satisfies whatever psychosis it is that compels Trump to engage in this bizarre and irrational behavior? One thing is for sure if we have learned nothing else, it's when Trump tweets it's fake news, you can rest assured it's not. If any of us were working with a man like this, we would question his sanity.

We've seen this too many times now, and it goes like this:

Threaten trade with <insert-nation-here> unless they do <insert-thing-here>

Leave what "success" means as loosely and nebulously defined as possible.

Stock market complains. Economists grumble. People as a whole say, "WTF is this man talking about?"

Time passes.

Voila! Trump announces a "victory" on Twitter that establishes the status quo or that puts in place what other people had accomplished long ago without Trump's bizarre and unnecessary threats and insults.

MAGA base applauds and thinks Trump is the greatest deal-maker ever because he stuck it them or is a "tough" negotiator or some other nonsense.

The rest of the sane world questions the man's motives and investigative reporters uncover that yes indeed, either Trump is lying, or he got played again.

Trump reacts by Tweeting that any news story that does not wholly reflect the false narrative that he desires is fake news.

Rinse and repeat a few weeks from now.

It's not desperation. It's wonderment and amazement that anyone could be taken in by Trump's false narratives whose only purpose appears to be to appease and excite his base and inflate his fragile ego. As I said, if you worked with a guy like this, you would think he was nuts!

But wait! There's more! Now Trump is tweeting there are double-jeopardy, triple-probation, super-secret concessions that Mexico has made whose announcement will happen at some unspecified time in the future! LOL. He is desperate to save this farce and fiasco. How long before he tries returning to his "very profitable" tariffs?

It wouldn't be funny Mel if he didn't do this stuff all the time. Make some grandiose claim about super-secret, double-jeopardy, cross-your-hear-and-hope-to-die soon to be revealed amazing outcomes, that are unverifiable in any meaningful way, and then what he announces, is just the status quo, or some lackluster deal that is no better or even worse than any other deal obtained by any other administration in the past. For example, I have read the Obama administration got the Mexico government to apply more pressure to slow-down Central American migration without all the unnecessary insults, temper tantrums, and name-calling. Trump is an embarrassment, and if he were the CEO of any company, his firing would have happened a long time ago. Most, if not all, of his antics that appear to have no other purpose than to rally and excite his base, don't help at all; they only make things worse.
