How's Wuhan World Going In Your State?

Posted By David Cotterell

Using Richard's 1.39 % death rate:  (and a calculator...)

If 10 million Americans catch the virus then....139 000 will die.
50 million? ---> 695 000 dead.
100 million? ---> 1 390 000 dead.

Hopefully Trump's measures and those of individual states' governors and the measures taken by average Americans above and beyond either level of the government measures will keep the number of people who catch Covid-19 to a minimum....

The reality will unfold before our eyes and by the end of May we will have a pretty clear indication of whether or not the strategies enacted in March were strong enough and soon enough.  This is one reality show that is going to be heart-breaking to watch because even with the very best outcome, thousands of people will die of this virus...

Richard:  Based upon your words from a post a couple of pages ago....

"because I'll never be able to convince you otherwise that the entire world blew this whole event out of proportion, and WRECKED an economy for no good reason.

And Furthermore Jim if you Don't believe that much of this hysteria was purposeful by certain political factions TO DO JUST THAT in order to remove Trump from office, than you are more of a naive fool than even I gave you credit for being. "

I am wondering what, if any, measures are you personally taking in your personal life to help restrict the movement of the virus...

for instance:

Are you staying home 24/7, day after day, leaving the house only to go food shopping or other necessities?

When you encounter another person are you keeping at least 2m distance away?

Washing your hands several times a day?

Dave

Saturday, went to my brother's home who lives about 1 mile from me, had coffee with him and interacted with his kids who were in the house (only 1 of them) that morning.

Worked, then went to my sister's home to work on her house that I'm helping to build, installing a very large Island cabinet that I designed for them.

Saw my sis, and bro-in-law I didn't maintain a 2 meter distance between us, then went to their house and we had some food and some drinks.  My sister sat across from me about 3 feet away.

We all had taco bowls that she made, and we all reached into the bowls where the meat, cheese, and tomatoes were.

I don't know if they washed their hands.  I washed mine thoroughly before dinner with soap and very warm water.

I've always been big on hand washing since I was in Nursing School.  That Idea never left me.

I didn't care if they washed their hands, as it never occurred to me to ask them.

I went home late, got up Sunday and worked 'till 1 PM when I traveled to Denver to work on a very good friend's house.

His wife was out of town and so we had some dinner, did not keep any set distances between us.

The 3 of us (a gal friend came by) had food at the same table  and I didn't check to make sure he washed his hands.  In fact he handed me food and touched it with his hands.

I didn't freak out either.  How weird huh?

After that we all went into his hottub.

Holy shit I even sat next to her in the tub, and I didn't ask her if she washed her hands either.  I know I touched her body with mine. OMG!

Didn't bother to worry about getting ill.  I don't think any of us did.

She went home and I then worked until 11:30PM.

I got up early, finished up his bathroom remodel, had some breakfast at his house and I came back home.

Stopped at my buddy Len's house.  He's 86.  He's not worried and we didn't sit 6 feet apart.  He's of the same mindset as I am.

Not interested in not living life because lefties (mostly) are freaking out and in panic mode.

I'll leave that to you and yours.

I even went to the Thrift store today.  Found some good deals.

Cleaning up and not worrying about Corona virus.

Tomorrow going to work at my sis's house.  I'll be withing 4 feet of people.

I can send you a clean suit if you like.
So you are not doing any of the recommended Anti-Covid strategies.  Not surprising, really... After all, the threat is exaggerated and politically motivated.

And, in the interest of sharing, here's what I have done since Friday, March 13.

Stayed home.

Exceptions - 1. went food shopping yesterday.  2. Went to Dodge dealer on the 16th to pick up my new (used) truck which was ordered a  week before...

Hope you stay well,

Dave

Did I say I was gathering together in large groups?  No. So then what would be the problem with seeing friends and going about life as I am?

You 'know' your friends, yes, but do you know who they were in contact with and who those people were in contact with and so on?  No you don't.  The virus could enter your social group and family very easily.

You're going to the grocery store?  How many items did you pick up and then not purchase?  None.  Just grabbed the stuff gloved.  Is the virus on your hands?  Is the virus on the food you are purchasing?  Invariably others are touching foods before you pick them up. Here you have nailed the risk of going out, not just for groceries but gasoline and gosh knows what else. For food it's a risk i will have to take.  But now I have enough to last me three more weeks of isolation...  Then when you give the clerk your dollar bill it has been touched by perhaps dozens of other individuals?  I shop with a debit card which i tap once on the machine. Perfectly sanitary.

Tell me something.  Do you bring your own sack to carry your groceries, so that you don't "pollute" the world with plastic bags?  Used to before the pandemic but now I use the store's plastic bags which I grab from the dispenser and then bag my own groceries - this strategy is how the store protects its cashiers from contact with the customers.  They have also erected plexiglass barriers at the checkout...  How many bacteria are on those filthy bags you've brought to the store to put your food into?  Do you wash those carry bags?  If you say "yes I do", I'll would say I don't believe you.  You've never thought about that in your life now have you? Why would you?  If I brought those to the grocery store by habit, it wouldn't have crossed my mind either to wash them in the washing machine..  I have some cloth bags and they are washable .... Thanks for the useful idea.  I may try using them next time.....then washing them at home...

I can read numbers in the USA, and I see that the trend is lowering as far as the percentage of deaths per person infected, and I believe it will go down further and further as the numbers of infected individuals in relation to those dying INCREASES.  This is a 'wait and see' project for all of us to watch unfolding...

I also believe that the left has an agenda as usual.  They see this as an opportunity to "not let a crisis (virus) go to waste".  We could spend a lot of time detailing the "agenda" of both political parties.......wouldn't accomplish much, though..

Futhermore, just because a person calls himself a scientist, doesn't mean a lot, sometimes.  There are plenty of scientists yeah, virtually every one of them around the world with PhD's in their fields and years of scholarly research who tell me that Global Warming is the NUMBER ONE threat to the planet.  I know that it isn't. Please share with us where you got your PhD in Geophysics or Bioclimatology or Geology or Chemistry or Botany or Glaciology etc. that you can flatly state that they are all wrong and you are right.. Therefore I may not trust the brilliance of all these people telling me how to run my life.

Certainly I'm taking precautions, however I'm not overly hysterical about the whole situation.

Oh, and right back at you.  I hope you stay well!  smile

Richard said:  "We don't even know if Covid 19 will be dormant through the summer yet."

Yes, we do.  There is indisputable evidence that summer won't slow it down one bit.

It is summer in Australia and they have 2300 cases of Covid. and increasing....

Tom Hanks and his wife caught it in Queensland which is as hot, if not hotter, than Florida.

Wonder what else you are getting wrong about the pandemic.....

Let me correct you and your stupidity, I never mentioned the hot months of the year down under in any way shape or fashion.

Therefore you are delusional.  I'd suggest a pill for that.
Maybe you should have for those are the months during which Tom Hanks and 2300 Australians contracted COVID. Late January, February and March up to the equinox on Mar 19...

so far

While hot weather may slow down the virus, the indications from the southern hemisphere are not hopeful.

Hi, Maurice.  When did the Equinox (Mar 19 this year) stop becoming the first day of spring/autumn?
March 1??

Thanks for the information.
It was SUMMER there when Tom and Rita and 2300 Australians caught the virus.

As difficult concepts to grasp go this ain't one of them.

Social distancing.....

A proper "Full English" is served piping hot.

My gran, born 1885 in Birmingham England, emigrated to Canada, 1910, served it fairly often when i was visiting as a kid.

Eggs (fried, poached or boiled in shell depending...), Bacon, Sausages/Bangers (English ones which are about 1" in diameter, more 'ham' flavoured and not peppery like American sausages), Baked beans, tomato slices, melon or orange slices, toast with Robertson's marmalade....

I love the memory and the smell of it.   I know a few restaurants in Toronto that will serve a perfect full English.

Not gonna argue the digestive 'result' a while later, though. -- beans, eggs...they do what they gotta do...

Wash yer pinkies!
