Vesta Resolved

Posted By Christopher Go

Here's my image of Vesta in the last few days. It has been both a frustrating and rewarding run. Vesta is only .6" wide and can only be imaged in perfect seeing!

Jupiter 06/13 SEB Monster Outbreak!

Posted By Christopher Go

It was clear this evening. But seeing was good.

The SEB Outbreak has really grown into a HUGE system! It's incredible that what was just a tiny spot on May 17 is not this big!! This system seem to have disrupted the STrD-2! In fact, I can barely make out STrD-2.

The NTB is interesting as half is red while the other half is pale! The NEB is very busy with a lot of rift activity.

I'll post more images later as I have about 10Gb of data to digest today!

Saturn: Seeliger Effect and Double Transit

Posted By Christopher Go

Seeing was almost perfect this evening.

Fortunately there was a double transit of Dione and Enceladus. From the images you can clearly see Dione and it's shadow. There is a hint of Enceladus following Dione in the animation below. Tethys is on the right.

The belt detail is very nice. The rings are very bright now with 1 day to go before opposition!! All in all, it was a magical night!

Saturn 3/23

Posted By Christopher Go

Condition was excellent this evening. Seeing and transparency was perfect.

Nothing really special going on with Saturn. No moons are visible. But the band detail is very nice. Note the dark spot on the EZs/SEBn. Note also the white irregular band north of the SEB. Is this associated with the dark barge?

The band details on the southern hemisphere is very distinct. 3 distinct SEB bands can be seen.

The northern hemisphere is very dull and bluish.

Jupiter 6/27: Europa and Oval BA (w/ Animation)

Posted By Christopher Go

I woke up early this morning at around 2:30am but the sky was overcast and raining! I went back to sleep. Woke up again just after 4am to see the sky partially cloudy.

Finally a good image of Oval BA. Although Oval BA is very pale now, the red ring is still distinct. A white oval has been following BA for some months now. Will they merge?

The SEB is very dark at this area but it is also quiet. Europa is transiting the EZ.

The NEB looks quiet at this region but activity is rising on the right.

Note the dark red spots on the NNTZ.

Jupiter 08/25: Red Ovals Galore

Posted By Christopher Go

Seeing was excellent this evening. I spent about an hour cooling my OTA with my CAT Cooler This gave me a better image quality!

The red ring of Oval BA is now very prominent after fading a few months ago!

Note the dark streak on the SEBs. Note that the activity of the EZ seem to be pushing into the southern half of the SEB.

The NEB is very well resolved and has a lot of activities. Note the outbreak which is affecting the new large NTrZ oval!

There are a lot of red ovals on the northern Temperate area. Note the huge NNTZ Little Red Spot (LRS) which is also prominent in Methane Band! Note also the little red ovals around the LRS. Note that the NNTZ LRS is now fully RED compared to last year when it was just a red ring like Oval BA!

Lastly, dark Callisto is moving closer to Jupiter. There are some prominent surface details resolved in my image. I had to brighten up Callisto because it is so dark!
