Texas removes Confederate plaque from State Capitol

The idea that slavery was not an issue until after the Civil War started, I'm afraid, is just unequivocally false, and the historical evidence does not support this hypothesis. Opposition to slavery and support for abolition had been growing not only in the US but worldwide long before the Civil War started. For example, by 1804 all Northern states had abolished slavery, and the Civil war did not even begin until 1861.

Go read about the Connecticut and Missouri Compromise and then tell me that slavery was not an issue until the Civil War. Even from the founding of the US, slavery was an issue and at odds with our proclaimed ideals of freedom and liberty for all.

I guess Maryland didn't the get the memo that was sent out by you at the time, where you make the absurd claim that in 1804 Slavery was abolished in that State.

Unless of course in your twisted alternative Universe whereby Maryland was somehow a "Southern Secession State" in 1860.

Care to rethink your assertion?  shocked

Southern and Northern are loose terms that mean different things based on context. After the Civil War, Southern States means any State from the Deep South such as Texas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, etc. During the Civil War though, Maryland was considered a Southern State, even though it stuck with the Union and was a slaveholding State. The reasons Maryland stuck with the Union and varied, but believe me, they were a Southern State and had a sympathetic leaning for the Confederacy. Maryland is the State that Booth fled to after killing Lincoln mainly because he thought he would find like-minded individuals there that would protect him. So, I stand by my original claim that slavery was illegal in the North before the Civil War. Why for example do you think slaves fled North?

The only person that routinely gets angry on this forum is you. It's quite hilarious that the guy who only sees every subject through ideological factionalism for the Republican party would accuse anyone else of engaging in fantasy.

Straw-man. I never said Northern states never had any slaves. Abolition of slavery in the Northern States was mostly phased out over time. The year 1804 is more than 50 years before the Civil War. What does the census of 1850 say for those same states for example? It says there were zero slaves in those states. By the time of the Civil War, all Northern States were free states. By the Northern States, I mean Northern in the context of the era of the Civil War. Slaves in the South fled to the North for this exact reason.

You will be happy to know then that those who advocate for their removal do not base their claims solely on their proclivities. No one is erasing history by removing these historically inaccurate monuments like the one on the Texas Capitol grounds. Today the sun will rise, and countless thousands of children and college students will still learn about the Civil War. They will not, however, be confused by a Confederate monument that was part of the introduction of legally mandated segregation and disenfranchisement into the South. And that is a good thing.

That is precisely the slur he's using Tony. Richard has directed his homophobia at others many times in the past. It's hilarious that the guy who fancies himself the smartest man in the room has to sink to misogynist and homophobic insults, but it's not surprising either given all his other past behavior that is toxic such as literally challenging people to fights and threatening to travel to their towns and beat them up.

It's truly jarring to get a lecture on credibility from the guy who routinely engages in personal attacks and insults.

I know it's a small consolation Dave, but trust me, most of us see this precisely for what it is. It indeed stretches the limits of credulity that Richard would characterize this as anything other than a homophobic slur.

There is a video that has surfaced of the "Trump Teens" harassing young girls before the black Hebrews and Nathan Phillips event. Have you seen it?

I'm not a foe or detractor of any of the parties involved other than the black Hebrews; they are a hate group. However, I don't think the "Trump Teens" are entirely innocent either despite Nick Sandmann's professionally PR crafted counter-narrative.
