"The United States provides a number of tax subsidies to the fossil fuel industry as a means of encouraging domestic energy production. These include both direct subsidies to corporations, as well as other tax benefits to the fossil fuel industry. Conservative estimates put U.S. direct subsidies to the fossil fuel industry at roughly $20 billion per year; with 20 percent currently allocated to coal and 80 percent to natural gas and crude oil. European Union subsidies are estimated to total 55 billion euros annually."

So please MEL, stop pleading the poverty argument on behalf of big oil...
Nancy Schumer could make them greedy bastards behave. Who needs these robber barons!

Boy, talk about having to take a trip in the way-back machine.
I was paying a lot of attention to this at the time. Most nuclear scientists were not happy when they shut it down. There was huge Dem pressure against nuclear then. Dems would have been against a successful breakthrough at that time. You don't turn this research on and off with a switch.

A Struggle to Watch Hearings

There are constant reminders this happened a long time ago. But we have constant reminders we cannot continue to spend this much for our gas or buy the groceries we are used to buying. These characters at the hearing can't make us feel any better for our cash shortage, either. And now a laughing Al Gore?

This show is not working for the Dems. Does everybody agree the Dems are getting stomped in Nov? It is difficult for regular folk to sit and watch politicians for more than a few minutes. It is only sad the politicians think we enjoy watching them. They get their way so often it is too easy for them to forget we really do not enjoy hearing them talk (especially for more than a few minutes) at all.

Yes they even do some of the teasing you will see on tv. Breaking during a cliff hanger so one will want to stay on channel. No adds here but several, "you will see more of this later." I recognized it and chuckled.

As far as committee hearings go, this one is quite well done. Instead of a bunch of congresspeople using their time to grandstand and score cheap political points, this hearing is produced exceptionally well. You can tell they hired some professional help. Today is going to be a very bad day for Trump. You can tell by how much he's whining on social media.
A "bad day for Trump" but it won't help Dems because they will get stomped this Nov. Not goofy to say this could be one of the most one-sided off-year elections in, what, 20 years?
Is this the best use of the Dem's time?
Doubtful.

I have only heard, "are you out of your F'n mind?" five times. That should really be good for 15-20 times.

I tune out? You could lose money betting me which one of us has watched the most.

But mostly the parties get the attention of the public one big production at a time. And if one doesn't go well it could be a setback.

Do they want to cause him legal problems or popularity problems?

They might have been able to find something that would minimize the whipping people expect in Nov. If they were able to somehow make Nov much closer many would consider a loss a victory.
