How did Trump do this?
- Trump was a birther and always questioned the legitimacy of Obama's citizenship even before he became President.
- He attacked people of color in Congress and told them to return to their country.
- Trump retweeted and amplified racist sayings and tropes on Twitter.
- He attacked people of color in sports who protested systemic racism in our country.
- Trump routinely pandered to his base and white supremacists using racist tropes and dog whistles.
- Trump called on white supremacist groups to help him in the 1/6 insurrection.
Trump encouraged groups like the Patriot Front and the Proud Boys and gave them oxygen to use to thrive and recruit. Even the Proud Boys publicly said their membership tripled while Trump was President. Who can forget Trump telling the Proud boys to "Stand back and Stand by" during the first Presidential debate of 2020? The Proud Boys publicly celebrated this callout. The number of racists emboldened by Trump's callousness is prominent and will be a problem for years.
The party is in quicksand so far with no bottom. None of this will stop the sinking. A lot of Dems feel better complaining that Trump is a racist but will these topics even slow the sinking? I don''t see how.
Trump a birther.
Tweets racism.
Attacked non-whites in sports.
Tropes and dog whistle pandering.
Asked for 1-6 help from supremacist groups.
These are missing mainstream people by a country mile.
