The Myth of American Greatness

Posted By David Cotterell

" I won't bother going into an explanation to you of the asininity of the WHO's stats, which places the USA right behind CUBA in our health care ranking. "

Your argument is circular - America can't be not great because America is great.  QED

Of course you could provide data to gainsay the claim. Please do.

Data:  USA is 56th in the world for Infant mortality, tied with Serbia.  46th in maternal mortality, just behind Khazakstan....

Public Policy written by Private For-Profit companies

TL;DR paraphrase of the article:   3400 police and fire depts. across the US have their policies and methodologies etc.  written by a private company, Lexipol, which also lobbies to reduce consequences for poor policing...

Shouldn't local governments write the policies of their local police/fire departments, so that the policies reflect local needs and are subject to oversight and accountability at the ballot box?

Is there no end to what can be privatized?

Education is "free" up to the end of high school.  Well, 'free' in that the costs are borne by local property taxes. But no one is cutting a check so that little Suzie and Bobby can attend each year...

I've not properly understood that once you get past 12th grade, tuition fees suddenly kick in...  Why?  It's education, too.  Society benefits from the skills of the graduates.

For in-state students who qualify academically there should be no tuition fees at 'State' universities.  The costs should be borne by, at this level, state taxes.....

Harvard and MIT etc. can still charge tuition - they're private schools.  But ________ state?  Free.  I suspect that's what Bernie is getting at.

Richard, I'm not agreeing with your point that after Grade 12 they are suddenly full adults.  At that age they have negligible income or savings.  Their parents are the ones who bear the burden of the tuition fees.  Or else the young people take on crushing student loan debt which can follow them for half their working life...

And I did say academically qualified on purpose.  You try to suggest that I think everyone should be admitted because that's the 'liberal' stance..  That's not what I said.  If that is the 'liberal' stance then i disagree with it..

How are the singing lessons going, by the way?

2015:  "I was the first and only potential GOP candidate to state there will be no cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid."

2019:  Trump budget cuts:  $1.5 Trillion from Medicaid, $845 Billion from Medicare, $25 Billion from Social Security.

Maybe he thought people would forget what he said......

More & More Of The Dossier Proving True...

Let's pretend your neighbour mows your lawn without being asked to do so.

Do you:  a) yell at him to stop mowing your lawn or you'll call the cops?  "I'll mow my own lawn, stay off my property and out of my business!!"

or

b) you see him doing it but  let him finish it because his doing the mowing is of benefit to you.

or c)  you don't know who did it or why  but, hey, somebody mowed your lawn for you...that's a benefit for you...

Is option 'b' collusion with the neighbour?
Is option 'c' collusion with the neighbour?

I know exactly how you elect presidents.  And on rare occasions the electoral college will declare a winner of the presidency who did not win the popular vote.   Like Mr. Trump.
