Jupiter 01/27 Oval BA vs STrD

Posted By Christopher Go

Oval BA is approaching the South Tropical Disturbance!! The Oval BA ring is still visible. Note the dark red spot in the STrD! Is this disturbance forming an "eye"? The EZ invasion to the SEB is really in full swing! Note the small white spot on the SEBs directly below the Oval BA.

The NEB seems very quiet. Ganymede is on the upper left of Jupiter. Jupiter was only 36 deg above the horizon when I took this image.

Jupiter 02/07 STrD-2

Posted By Christopher Go

Jupiter was around 43 deg above the horizon when I took this image.

Here's an image of the STrD-2 and the SED. The EZ and the SEB of Jupiter are really very busy this season! Note the red features appearing on the SEB just below the STrD-2.

Saturn 02/07 The Seeliger Effect

Posted By Christopher Go

Seeing was very good this evening. This allowed me to get his very sharp image of Saturn. Note the very bright ring and the pale disk of Saturn compared to my earlier images below. This is the Seeliger Effect which occurs during opposition. This year opposition will be on Feb 12.

Note also the Cassini division in front of Saturn's disk, you can see some parts of the disk through the CD!! Again the SEB and STB of Saturn is quiet at this location.

Chris

Jupiter 02/13 Oval BA and STrD-1

Posted By Christopher Go

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Seeing was good this morning. Here's an image of the Oval BA and the
STrD-1. The color of the red ring of the Oval BA is not as intense as
the SEBs. Note also the STrD-1 extending almost to the STB! It would
be very interesting to see the interaction of the Oval BA and the
STrD-1!! Note the tiny red spot close the the STrD-1 at the SEBn
and another one on the left. There is an interesting white spot on
the STB on the p side of the Oval BA.

The NEB is very quiet. There seems to be a white oval at the NEBn
close to the CM. While the SEBn/EZ have almost the same
color. Note the NNTB white spot.

Jupiter 02/17 A Busy Boring Side

Posted By Christopher Go

Conditions were fantastic this morning. This is my best image this season. This may be the boring side of Jupiter but lots of things are going on!
Most notable is the bright white spot appearing on the NEB just before the CM. This spot should develop into a rift in the next few days. The red band at the center of SEB is very resolved in this image. Note also the faint red banding at the SEBn.
Although the yellow color of the EZ and SEB is almost the same this image clearly shows the difference in the circulation of the two. Note the widening of the NEB at this region.
The STrD-2 is setting on the left. Note that the color of the STB is a bit darker than the STrZ. The blue bands on the NTrZ is accompanied by faint red bandings. There are a lot of dark spots on the NNTB along with the red band in this region.

Saturn 02/22 My Best

Posted By Christopher Go

Here's my best image of Saturn. Note the disk details! Most interesting are the bright zones in the northern hemisphere. Note also the brightening of the SSTZ. Is the brightening of the zones also an opposition effect?

Note the small white spot on the SEB just after the CM.

The Encke minima is visible in this image.

Chris

Jupiter 04/11 A New Disturbance (NTrD!)

Posted By Christopher Go

The Upheaval in Jupiter is really very evident in this image. Note the chaos in the NTrZ/NTB region! This area of Jupiter used to be very quiet. Note also that there seems to be a North Tropical Disturbance developing!!! Note the projection just after the CM at the NEBn. The dark barges in the NTrZ is really interesting! This signals the revival of the NTB!

The STrD-2 seem to be fading! Note also the huge spot at the NNTB just after the CM. It seems to be also turning red.

Jupiter 04/29 Red Jr., SSTB Oval Merger, etc.

Posted By Christopher Go

I had to image early today because I wanted to catch Red Jr. and the SSTB Ovals Merger. The small Oval is now squashed between Red Jr and the SSTB Oval. Will this ovals merge or will the smaller oval just pass through?

The STrD-1 and SEBs has really faded. It's very pale now. The SEDs are very nice! The SED-2 has revived and it's circulation is very visible in this image.

The EZ is now very dark and Festoons are very complex now. Io and her shadow is at the NEB. The NEB is very dark red and has a lot of rift activity.

The NTB rebuilding is in full swing now at the NTrZ. The belt is very dark!

Jupiter 05/04 Ganymede

Posted By Christopher Go

Another perfect morning! This time I caught an old friend. Ganymede was in the vicinity and note the surface details!
Red Jr and STrD-1 is setting in this image. The EZ is still reddish Amber.
The NEB is very busy now with many rifts. Note the area around White Oval Z which hasa wake interacting with the NTB!

Jupiter 05/13 Red Jr Animation

Posted By Christopher Go

Conditions were perfect today! I was able to to do my first animation this year!
Red Jr is prominent in this image. STrD-1 is below Red Jr and both features are really interacting!
The SEBs is very faint! While the SEDs are very prominent. SED-2 is very beautiful and well resolved.
The EZ is dominated with festoons! The festoons this year have been dull and greyish. Note the reddish tinge on the EZ.
The NEB is very busy and filled with rifts. The newly minted NTB is now reddish like the NEB! Note the very prominent NNTB white spot.
