GOP voter tampering PROVEN in NH

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

This is the type of dirty trick that really worries me. Where will the GOP draw the line?

"A telephone firm was paid to make repeated hang-up phone calls to overwhelm the phone banks in New Hampshire and prevent them from getting Democratic voters to the polls on Election Day 2002, ..."

"A top New Hampshire Party official and a GOP consultant already have pleaded guilty and cooperated with prosecutors."

The GOP has already spent $722,000 defending the person accused of "of specifically calling the GOP consultant to get a telephone firm to help in the scheme."

Another Question

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

I have a question about supporting our troops:

How many of our good, brave soldiers have died unnecessarily because they were not supported by this administration with a good plan, proper training for a war in Iraq, and proper equipment for the task at hand?

Before you go off on me, I cannot say enough about the job these troops are doing in the face of a daunting, if not impossible task. It tears my heart out to think how things might have been different if we had gone in with a good plan and enough troops to do the job right.

Re: Environmentally safe oil

I think is it premature to claim that there was not an ecological disaster. We don't even have a body count yet. One story says that all the water is polluted and has a sheen to it. I've also seen a story about a 2 million gallon tank leaking.

Hope it's not true

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

If this is true, it is absolutely appalling to me.

Newsweek reported former Louisiana Democratic Senator John Bureaux, whom it called a close ally of Bush, rejected the president's claim that nobody anticipated the failure of New Orleans' levees, saying the two talked about it last year.

If Bureaux is telling the truth, then Bush is a liar or he cannot recall important facts of conversations effecting the health and safety of the residents of New Orleans.

On the other hand this is exactly what I expect from Rumsfeld:

U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld toured a medical facility at New Orleans' international airport. He spoke and shook hands with military and rescue officials but walked right by a dozen refugees lying on stretchers just feet away from him, most of them extremely sick or handicapped.

He really cares ... NOT!

Re: Hide your pocketbook

Nice rant, but I don't see any links to the liberal proposals. As far as I am concerned, we should give Cadillacs to all the poor before we spend billions and billions on subsidies for rich farmers, tax incentives to oil companies that are making record profits, and record amounts of PORK to the rich supporters of this Republican controlled Congress that is supposed to be fiscally conservative. It certainly would stimulate the economy more than billions in tax cuts for the filthy rich.

Re: imperial president needs a wee-wee

Nils, I am no fan of George Bush, but this seems to be a simple case of Bush checking with his staff about an unexpected problem before it became an emergency. He has not spent much time in the UN and probably did not know the protocol. The note was a good idea because it should have been private. A verbal query with a microphone in the area could have been an embarrassing misadventure.

To me this post appears to be more of a troll than anything and we are trying to bring the quality of this forum up a notch or two.

Bush's Reconstruction Expert

Posted By Tom Rodstrom

If this New York Times story it true, Bush must be REALLY serious about reconstruction. 8O
It appears that Karl Rove is the most qualified person available lead this effort. The decision must be based on Rove's years of experience with ... ??? :S

Well, I guess he will do a good reconstructing the image of Bush in New Orleans. I hope that is enough to keep out the rain.

Bush to Focus on Vision for Reconstruction in Speech

Republicans said Karl Rove, the White House deputy chief of staff and Mr. Bush's chief political adviser, was in charge of the reconstruction effort, which reaches across many agencies of government and includes the direct involvement of Alphonso R. Jackson, secretary of housing and urban development.
