Regardless of velocity, size, or whether the 5.56 ammunition is adequate for deer hunting, they are lethal and capable of killing lots of people in a short amount of time. Who cares about pedantic back-and-forth over ballistics, statistics, and technical details? You have to look at the number of dead and wounded in a mass shooting where shooters used these weapons and ammunition and no more to understand what they can do.

Parents from Uvalde Robb Elementary were asked for DNA to help identify the victims because their bodies were so shattered. I don't need to know any more than this gruesome and chilling detail to understand the lethality of the rifle and ammunition.


A couple of articles about the dead and wounded that appeared after the Parkland shooting describe what trauma surgeons see and have to deal with after these mass shootings. I remember them from the time.

The ten states with the highest death gun rates are all red states with highly lax gun laws. Illinois is not even in the top 25, and I point this out because Chicago and its gun violence problem keep coming up in the debate as evidence that gun laws don't work.

Here is a chart from the CDC and the year 2020, but dozens of studies and data sets like this say the same thing. States with more guns and laxer gun control laws have more gun violence.
