Just got our price for 2015 Democrat-mandated healthcare. Not surprisingly, given that we are a captive customer in a politically managed government-controlled system, the price went up. BY $300 MORE PER MONTH. $3600 more per year that we have to fork out.

You can be sure that our consumer spending will go down by $3600 next year. Thanks, Barry.

My president says you had bad insurance. Now you have good insurance.

Fact Checking Affleck/Maher Debate

Er, ah, I guess that the best that could be said is that one could have hoped it might have looked better for Islamic proponents but...

I often agree with Smerconish but don't you agree that opinion piece writers claim they are giving us the facts? People on the left and the right claim they are fact checkers. The term "fact checker" carries no weight.

CNN

Disappointing.

Last night it was Jeffrey Toobin, standing atop a mountain of self-righteous indignation, tossing verbal firebombs into a narrative ignited by lies, half-truths and hysteria.

Tonight it's Erin Burnett, fawning over the daughter of Eric Garner as if he was a national hero, instead of a man arrested almost three dozen times. A man who when asked repeatedly to leave, by the owner of the store where he was illegally selling cigarettes, chose to stay. A man who when asked by police to do the same, chose to stay and argue with same. A man who resisted arrest. A man who was clearly capable of breaking in half any one of the police on the scene. A man who, if he had simply not been breaking the law that morning -- or even if he had taken one of the numerous chances he had been given by the storeowner and police -- would likely still be alive today.

It's been a while for me, here, for a variety of reasons. This post is as much inspired by my sudden, intense distaste for CNN as it is by Ron Oehlert's belief that posting in a politics forum on an astronomy website needs some kind of justification other than whimsy. It doesn't, Ron, by the way.

Would a producer get fired for making a good news program? All that money floating around and nobody can make a good daily news show?

The interviewers always ask, "How did that make you feel?"

Global Debt is growing. Everywhere*

Even Krugman says benefits will have to be cut. Not now, but sometime in the future! Most politicians can't even bring themselves to say they would reduce the amount the benefits will increase. A politician that says nothing notable and keeps his head down will be re-elected 95% of the time. When voters are getting benefits they vote for people that keep the increases coming.

Who Owns Hillary?

Where is she? The people on her team are limiting her exposure. She is not a good retail politician and the gaffes will increase. She will not wear well. Why is the media acting like she has the nomination?

Bergdahl Declared Deserter

We can say Nixon had a failed presidency but I never thought we were at a disadvantage when he was negotiating with China. Putin must think Obama is a joke. Doesn't look like Iran is very impressed, either.

HOW BAD IS IT?

Hey all you Obozo drooling idiots- how bad is it when we have to get the truth from Iran? They must have be laughing their ass off when they announced that Kerry's BS was a lie

It's easier to just pretend Obama has all this figured out and his opposition is always wrong. It would take too much effort to research the other side of the issue.

Dropping the sanctions will give them billions more to spend. And they will.

It's the Fuel Cycle!!

Posted By Mel Maki

Jeff Blazey said:

One of the main reasons there is this drama going on with Iran (and who knows who else later)is that the present nuclear fuel cycle requires the removal of uranium and plutonium in highly concentrated and pure form in order to recycle the fuel rods. It's an intrinsic part of the fuel cycle. And no one wants the spent fuel rods transported across thousand of miles through or over their country for recycling by a third party. Shoot, if I were Iran, I'd balk at that too as I could be held hostage to disruptions in the processing in another country.

The metallic fuel cycle however, has no such requirements. It uses a pyro process to reconstitute the fuel without separating out the uranium and plutonium in highly purified forms. AND it can be done on site. It's almost impossible to cheat as it would require very elaborate and specific facilities to remove the fissile material and concentrate it, thus making it obvious what you're up to.

OBTW, it's also physically impossible to melt the core due to the dynamics of the nuclear reaction and fuel rods if coolant is cut off. It's modular too and is the elephant in the room for a completely green power source.

The technology was in an advanced state of development and demonstration in the eighties before the chickens in the Clinton administration caved to the nuclear-phobes and canceled it and the dimwitted Republicans made no effort to revive it when they could have.

Fortunately, the commercial nuclear industry (US, Russia and China) has been slowly and quietly bringing it along and is now ready to get it certified for commercial use.

So why haven't our brilliant "leaders" ever offered this option up to Iran? Hell go into partnership with them to commercialize the process and proliferate it.

If they say "NO" well then there you have it.

Jeff

Yep, it was Hazel O'Leary that shut it down.

I don't how you can have ANY "deal" with Iran when their sacred duty is to lie to the infidel...

How about the claim that we are required to protect Iran from attack?
