$5 billion for a wall

I don't understand why Trump didn't push through his $5B during the first two years of his term when the Republicans had majorities in the Senate and the House.  He had the votes, why not then?

Instead he waits until after the mid-terms give the House to the Dems and then he gets around to pushing for it and finds, not surprisingly, that the Dems don't want to give him the $5B..

Why did he wait?

"I'd love to see a shutdown", "I am proud to shut down the government", and "Shut it down" were all said clearly and unequivocally by Donald Trump  just a little while ago.  We all saw the discussion in the White house with Trump, Pence, Pelosi and Schumer.  

So how does Trump now get away with blaming the Democrats for the shutdown?  Boggles the mind.

Anyway, 

  The backstory is that the kids from the Catholic high school were on a trip to DC for a Right To Life Rally, as Catholics do.  No story there.

The native man was there for an Indigenous People's march.  No story there.

But the two groups met accidentally.   Neither planned or foresaw the confrontation.   The kids then made some very poor behaviour choices.... and it becomes newsworthy....

FWIW I don't believe anyone can pick out one country which is 'better' than the rest.  There are so many parameters and every country is good at some things and not at others.

I clearly stated in my post that I do not believe anyone can make an argument that any one country is the 'best'..  There is a goodly armload of excellent nations - Western European nations galore, the Scandinavian nations, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and, yes, Canada.  I'm not coming from a 'jealous' point of view at all.  

To be fair, your point about the US military strength is spot-on.  Biggest, most powerful in the world by a good margin.....   But that isn't everything you could 'measure' a country's 'greatness' by....
