Best Eyepieces For New Televue 85 User ?

Posted By Steve Little

Me too! smile
Just received the 85 yesterday and ran all my eyepieces through it last night.
High power, I have the 3-6 Nagler click stop
Next is the Type 1 9mm Nagler
Then the Meade 14mm UWA
An old 20mm Nagler Type 2
The 50mm Plossl was a little much, I'm thinking the 35 Pan, or 31 Nagler would be perfect to round out a set that would fit in the soft case with the scope.

It's an awesome little scope!

Enjoy,
Steve

Suggestion for filter for a Televue 85 ?

Posted By Steve Little

OIII works the best for me and my TV85. Not enough aperture to see much of an improvement with nebular filters. The narrow band and wide band filters do little to nothing even in dark skies with the 85, but the OIII does help "pop" out more details.

YMMV

Need AAM setup help

Posted By Steve Little

Hey Ben,

The AAM is essentially the same as the JMI NGC Max. I didn't see an AAM manual at Celestrons site but there is a NGC Max manual at JMI's site.

Just going from memory alt and az should be either a "+" or "-" followed by the encoder resolution (ie: +004000).
The chart... in the description of an object displayed on the unit, there will be a chart number. You can specify either Sky Atlas (SA) or Uranometria (UA) charts for the number to match up with.
Hint: The 4000 tic encoder goes on the RA axis.

So if Kerry wins we could be looking at "Surgeon General Dean"?

Bush - the Elitist

Posted By Steve Little

Politicians above a certain level no matter what party are by nature Elitist. Just as CEOs, clergy, professional athletes etc....etc. Wouldn't expect any less out of them.
What about all those people in MA complaining about Kerry jumping in lines, asking for special treatment because he is a US senator.
Oh yeah, the big meal with the "common people" at Wendy's! Then they all climbed on the campaign bus and ate their real meal of fillets and goose liver pate delivered by the local yacht club. Going to be hard to find a non-elitist in politics today, the last one I remember was long ago by the name of Ghandi.

Seems odd........

Oh no! It's not my stereotype. I apologize if it came across as that, and I was duped by the media.
The stereotype is portrayed by television in their sitcoms and even in some of the dramatic shows (Law and Order, for one). Also most media outlets portray the "typical NY stereotype" to some extent.
It came from an article I read on delegates trying to find lodging for the convention. They were met with big banners across the front of rental places stating "Republicans no welcome". It also showed want ads in the rooms for let section of the classifieds "No Republicans, but protesters welcome". This article claimed it was widespread.

I just read another article that talked about many hotels in the area removing Heinz Ketchup bottles from their resturants so as not to offend the Republicans.

I worked in NY for 2 years (lived in CT) and met many fine people there. While there were some that fit the negative stereotype they were far from the norm.

The Budget Deficit:422 billion and counting

Posted By Steve Little

Not as bad as it sounds. Fourth largest deficit dollar figure adjusting for inflation and the seventeenth largest by percentage of GNP.
My car payment is twice as large as it used to be! Funny thing is the car costs three times as much as it used to be. Somewhere there I lost a "times as much". Oh, a year longer on the term and interest rates are way lower.
Apples are apples, oranges are oranges and both sides will spin the numbers to their advantage.
