oil spaced triplet or air spaced?

Posted By Daniel Janosick

Can anyone help me understand the difference between an oil spaced triplet and an air spaced triplet? Also what is the benefit and downside of each in cooling time, maintainance, etc...

Hi has anyone received shipment on this scope? I returned a WO 132mm,(big dissappointment) and am on the AP 160 waitlist. So I am looking for something in the meantime.

Robert,
I tend to agree with you. I had a flt132 from WO and retruned the scope for a refund after some mechanical and optical issues. Your point is interesting since the scope I returned had a turned edge. Maybe the front bafle was not close enough to the lense cell to mask any optical defect?

william optics annouces new 150mm and 158 mm ed sc

Posted By Daniel Janosick

It seems WO has announced a few new OTA's that will be skown at NEAF this spring. A 150 mm apo and a 158 mm apo both are triplets using fpl-53 glass. The 158mm is F7,, the 150mm is F8 , and the 98mm in a F/6 APO.
I could not find and images on the Internet but pretty exciting stuff!

field flattener for WO flt 110

Posted By Daniel Janosick

I everyone I just picked up a flt-110 as I wait for my name to come up on the AP waitlist. I was wondering what are options for a field flattener? I know WO makes one but it looks proprietary and cannot be used with other scopes.
The other issue is the focal length of the scope is 770 mm, this puts the scope in an range where the TV reducers do not cover that focal length. The rfl-4087 works in the range of 800mm to 1000 mm and the trf-2008 works with ranges 400-600mm focal length.
Does anyone have a recommendations? I would hate trial and error as these reducers are not cheap.

Which CCD camera

Posted By Daniel Janosick

Hi group,
I am in the market for another ccd camera and I am really in need of guidance. In my observatory I have two piers, one holds an 8" SCT, and the other holds a 110mm refractor (which will eventually through grace get upgraded to a 152mm).
I am currently using the SKY 6 and use CCD SOft for image acquisition. I prefer a mono camera so I can get into narrow band imaging. I know the two scopes have much differnt focal lengths but if I get a camera that bins will/can it perform on both?
I am not married to SBIG but I am very comfortable with their CCD interface.
PS I am very much budget minded. ANy guidance would be appreciated.

Imaging mount

Posted By Daniel Janosick

Hi everyone
I am looking for guidance from advanced imagers as to what you feel if the best but most cost effective mount. The mount needs to support ~55 pounds worth of equipment. I am not opposed to buying used and would like to hear the pros and cons. I would need The mount to be a GOTO and the mount would be permanently mounted in an observatory.
Dan.
