Beware of Binocular Classified #611180

Posted By Scott Satko

If you're referring to this ad: http://www.astromart.com/classifieds/details.asp?classified_id=611180, I would be surprised if the person listing that ad were even an active Astromart member anymore. That appears to be the only ad that he has ever placed (3.5 years ago), and he's never posted in any of the forums. He may not even have the same email account that he had in 2009. So I'm not sure that it's all that reasonable to hold the poor guy responsible for not responding to a request to buy his item.

follow up statement on ratings

All you can do is delete your previous comment. If the ad is still up, you can try to re-respond to the ad, which should generate another ratings ticket. As far as I know, that's the only way to re-do your comments if you feel that you didn't have complete information at the time that you rated the seller the last time. And you've probably realized this by now (as hindsight is usually 20/20), if a deal goes less than perfectly, it's probably best to wait until the deal has reached some type of conclusion before leaving a rating.

Selling for a club

Posted By Scott Satko

If the club owns the equipment, then I imagine an authorized representative of the club (like the club president) could likely get an AM account of his own to sell this gear. If, however, the equipment that you're referring to is not owned by the club, but rather by individual club members, then each of these members that wishes to sell his or her gear should get their own AM accounts. But this is just *my* interpretation of the rules. It would be best to contact Herb York directly for clarification.

Selling Prices on EP

Posted By Scott Satko

Tina, I'm so sorry to hear of your husband's passing. I can't say that I knew him well, but did enjoy chatting with him when I bought a tripod from him a few years back.

What I'd recommend as the best resource for pricing the gear that you're trying to sell would be to use Astromart's search function. By searching the classified ads archives, you can get a good idea of what similar items have sold for over the past several years. This may not work as well for really unique items, but it shouldn't be too hard to come up with comparable sales of most, if not all, of the eyepieces that you have. I do this all the time when I'm trying to come up with a good price for gear that I'm trying to sell, and most of the time end up listing my items with a mid-range price (maybe a little higher if it's a really unique item in exceptional shape, and lower than average if I'm trying to move the item quickly). Hope this info helps!

Green Level support through 12/7/12

Posted By Scott Satko

There must be a system glitch, because I see that you are indeed listed on the "Green Level Supporters" list. If Herb doesn't see and respond to your post within the next couple of days, or you don't turn "green" in the interim, you may want to send him an email.

Try going to the "My Account" section on the left side of the website page, clicking "Account Menu" then "Account Settings." You should then be able to change whatever you need.

Location

Where does this AM member's profile say that he is located? The reason I ask is that Herb generally takes quite a dim view of people who are not actually located where they say they are.
