Artificial star questions

Posted By David Pitre

I'm getting ready to make an artificial star using a flashlight (Mini Mag) and thin metal preforated with a pin.
I have a couple of questions for those with experience:

Should star tests and collimation be done at night with such a set-up, or will this work in daylight as well?

What is a good distance to set the scope for the star?
I'm using this for a 9.25" SCT f/10.

If I stack sheets of the metal and preforate them on a hard surface to get sheets with holes of different diameters, how do I know which is optimal? Trial and error?

While we are talking Star test... Can you explain

Posted By David Pitre

My 9.24" SCT shows a star test with an exceptionaly bright first diffraction ring. Outside of focus it it sharply defined. Inside of focus it it large and blurred.
Can anyone comment on this?

Meade UWA 6.7 and 8.8 questions

Posted By David Pitre

I was using my 14 UWA last night on my C9.25" and was stunned by how good it is. Sharp like I'd expect from an ortho.
Do the other old series UWAs compare, or is this the best of the bunch?
I also use a 80mm f/7 apo refractor.

How do you mount your OTA to your Teegul?

Posted By David Pitre

I'm assuming most people who have Tak refractors and a Teegul use the Tak tube holder mounted directly to the Teegul.
I'm wanting to use saddle/plate/ring system for mounting my FS102 to my Teegul.
Is a Losmandy G11 saddle and plate overkill?
I really want it solid, but don't want to spend money where I don't have to.

Tak mount plate hole spacing

Posted By David Pitre

Do all takahashi mounts present and past ( EM11, EM10, EM200.....)
use the same hole diameter and spacing for saddle plates.
i.e. 8mm x 35mm

Extension for visual use of FS-102NSV

Posted By David Pitre

I just bought an FS-102NSV and am wondering how long a 2" diameter extension I need to use most all EPs in my 2" diagonal. Is 2X2 about right ?
I don't do any imaging or binos.

Eyepiece end caps

Posted By David Pitre

I'm looking for a source for 1 1/4" end caps.
I really don't like the rubber ones with the nipple, though. With these the eyepiece doesn't stand up with the cap on. Seems all the stores are only carrying this rubber nipple kind.
Any sources on the "old school" style?

Filter threads and glare

Posted By David Pitre

A number of my eyepieces have bright chrome exposed on the filter threads. Doesn't this create reflections?
If so, is there something that can darken them without causing buildup on the threads that will make filters more difficult to put on/ take off ?
