Mirror recoating - overspray

Posted By J. Allen Como

I just had a 12.5" zambuto mirror recoated by a well known company and noticed some oversrpay on the sides. I ask the company about the overspray and they said all the mirrors they coat have a little bit of overspray and that it should not be a problem. Should I be concerned about light scatter, should I paint the sides of the mirro black where I see overspray?

I'd apprecaite any comments.

Regards, Allen

Chiefland Star Trails

Posted By J. Allen Como

Looking NW at the Chiefland Star Party last week. Canon F-1, 24mm lens at f5.6 100 ASA for about two hours. Can anyone recommend a filter for the sky glow, if so how many f stops should I adjust?

Allen

Mirror by Hall, who is Hall?

Posted By J. Allen Como

I purchased an old 10" f6 fiberglass tube that looks like an old Cave scope that someone put a newer focuser on. The main pyrex mirror looks good but the coating is a little faded. The word HALL is scratched in the mirror but there are no other marking except a Hard Beral Coating sticker by Dudley Le Roy Causling of Skokie IL. The words 10"D and Made in USA are also on the bottom of the glass and are part of the mold.

Can someone give me any information on this mirror and any coating suggestings. I was going to use Spectrum Coatings and put a 95% coating on it and the secondary.

Thanks, Allen Stuart, FL

Lithuanian astronomers

Posted By J. Allen Como

I've just received two e-mails about my Celestron C9.25 that I've listed for sale from two different people who want to know if I'll ship to Lithuania. What gives, has astronomy become the national pastime of that country, is it random chance or is there skullduggery afoot?

Which Barlow

Posted By J. Allen Como

I'm torn between several adjustable barlows that I've narrowed my selection down to for my plantary viedo setup using a 18" f4 Starmaster and/or a C-11.

Baader Planetarium Zeiss 2x Barlow for $489
Baader Planetarium Hyperion 2.25x Zoom for $119
Baader Planetarium Hyperion VIP 2x for $273

I know the first two listed are adjustible with the use of extension tubes, don't know about the VIP model but it should be. I figure I need close to a 3x barlow for my dob. Is the $489 model that much better than the rest?

Thanks, Allen

EP for TV binoviewer

Posted By J. Allen Como

I am looking for recommendations for an EP pair to use with binoviewer and 18" dob with tracking. I already have 35mm Ultima's, 25mm UO, 18mm UO, I was looking for pair at 13mm or below, the 12.5mm's UO did not work for me. I am blessed with steady skies in South Florida so I want to bump up the magnification. I need a good deal of eye relief at the higher mags.

Thanks,

Allen

Battery Hookups

Hi Jay:

I bet I could produce that same set up in 10 hours. Are you powering a toaster in addition to your normal astro equipment? I guess there's no such thing as too much power.

Parka ?

Posted By J. Allen Como

Down in South Florida where we suffer temperatures that sometime dip into the low 40's during the winter I've found that my old Cosmic Storm dob cover does the trick. See my profile picture.
