Loading a Lapides Modified Teegul...

Posted By Paul Mouritsen

Hi,

Anyone here tried loading a Lapides modified Teegul with something larger than a Sky 90 or an FSQ? I have one and love it with my Sky 90. I was thinking about trying another different type of scope with it... perhaps a small 5-6" Mak-Newt or a Mak-Cass. Any ideas about it's useful capacity?

Best,

Paul

Teegul(Lapides) Mounting Capacity?

Posted By Paul Mouritsen

Hi,

Anyone here tried mounting a 5-6" scope on a Lapides modified Teegul? I am wondering what it's real-life useful capacity is... I use it with a Sky 90 now and love it but was thinking of trying a 5" Mak-Newt or a 6" Mak on it.

Best,

Paul

Zooms in a Binoviewer...

Posted By Paul Mouritsen

Hi,

I am "think'in on" setting up my Tak Sky 90 with a binoviewer. I have been lurking on the forums for a bit and also looking over web links for the better viewers and their respective reviews however I never seem to find folks using zoom EP's for binoviewers. Is there a technical/practical reason for this or does one just not get good enough quality from available EP's. I have a TV 3-6 and a TV 8-24. I was hoping to find out that I could just get another mate for these and be in business. I also have a TV Pan 24mm which I do know will work well...

Anyone out there happily using a pair of zooms?

Best Wishes for the Holidays...

Paul

Focusing with FS60C

Posted By Paul Mouritsen

Hi All,

I have a question.

I have owned three Taks over the past two years. I had a FS60C then a Sky90, and then a FS60C again. When I had the first FS60C I had three TeleVue eyepieces that all worked fine with it. A TV 24mm Panoptic, the TV 8-24 Zoom, and the TV 3 to 6mm zoom. All nice ep's for a grab and go setup. Recently I took the new/second FS60C out for the first time since purchasing it. I found that I could not get the same 8-24mm zoom to come to focus, either with the extender tube or without it. It was too short one way and too long the other way. The 3 to 6 zoom and 24mm Panoptic worked with the tube but just barely. Can you think of any reason that these ep's would work with the first scope but not the second? The only idea that comes to my mind is that the extension tubes were different lengths. Is it possible that the FS60C has shipped with tubes of different lengths? The extension tube measures 2 3/8 inches. Seems like a slightly shorter one would be better, at least with my current ep's.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Best,

Paul

Tak FS60C vs Pronto vs Williams Megrez 80 ?

Posted By Paul Mouritsen

Hi All,

I was out of town this weekend and returned to find many good tips. Thanks. Well.. I ruled out the Williams Megrez 80. It is beautiful, incredibly well made, comes with all kinds of ammenities, but seems to have only passable optics. I would put it just past and ST80 but well behind my old Pronto. I did look around for a Borg 76ED a couple of weeks ago but between the build-your-own approach to ordering one and trouble finding one in stock I sort of bailed out. It was actually my first choice when I began. Currently I am evaluating a TAK FS60-C which I like very much. It is very sharp, with a really pleasing quality to the view. It has a bit of that "Ah" quality going for it which I suppose the stars should actually take credit for :-) The downside is the tiny aperture but at 14" long and 3 pounds it is a wonderful travel scope. It also works well on my Kirk BH-3 photographic ballhead which means another thing I do not need to buy.

Thanks again for the input, great thread...

Thanks guys. Those are some good links. I am also thinking of converting a Nexstar ST80 for it's GOTO mount. Now that's really cheap :-)
