m16 with my home made filter slide

Posted By Eric Pellegrini

I was testing a filter slide I made and did so with m16. Ran out of time to get deep G and B images and no L.

That is quite a nice image. Is it cropped at all and was it taken at prime focus? If so what mounting was used?

HEQ5 disassembly

You can check the Yahoo groups on eq6 and eq5. Be very careful though, there is a growing number who believe that this tacky lub is the best you can get for dampening vibrations. This appears to work very well. The original reason for removing it was because of debree left from manufacturing. If the mount is fairly new this isn't a problem and should be left alone.

Those are great. I am glad to see you are also using an EQ6 with an MTS-3SDI.
I have a question: have you tried to train your PEC with a webcam through lx200 commands? If so did it work?
I have tried via others example and have not been able to get my guiding program to talk to the mts after pec training has started.
Also what modifications have you made to your eq6 other than the MTS any motor or gear changes.
I changed my gears with the Conrad ones and am able to manually train the PEC to +-3 arcsec.
Thanks
Eric

M27 from Utah

Wow, That is the nicest m27 I have ever seen. It is also one of the few I have liked.

Thanks, I was trying to get it to look like that my self. I was doing a color stretching using a function asinh but it always looked to strong.

How did you adjust it?

I have to say that I had many doubts about this camera, but with good processing (thank dan and Lee) and decent signal(THE requirment for ANY observation) it looks pretty good.

Thanks Dan. I can't wait for another chance to go out and try it again. I am just a little limited on available objects because of my guiding camera is a real bad webcam. Right now I am trying to come up with a new focuser design for my newt so I can make an off axis guider to get plenty of light for guiding.

Help with Long Exposure.

Posted By Eric Pellegrini

Considering read noise and bias left over I would suggest you go with the longer 1 minute exposures. They have the least amount of "issues" in my opinion and their will be less that you need to work with.

Re: First MEADE DSI image

Hi,
I purchased an after market upgrade called a MTS-3DSI for my mount before the new SkyScan came out. It has all the same features and then some. My favorite is the PEC that can be programed through autoguiding. I also am still using the original motors with a different gear box. I am in the process of changing over to better motors to get reasonable slew speeds (right now I am at 50x Siderial). It is ver accurate though since I always off set from a star.

A plus to the upgrade I chose is that it can be used with ANY mount that uses step motors, like one that I may build later... wink
