Change Secondary Size on a Meade SN?

Posted By Brock Ondayko

I know on a Schmidt-cassegrain the secondary and primary mirrors are matched. If this is the case on the schmidt-newtonian, you are unlikely to get a good image, even if all dimensions are the same.

Just a thought.

Meade 8" LX90

Posted By Brock Ondayko

A great telescope!

Same optics as lx200 series. If you plan on doing astrophotography though, you may have to upgrade at some point in the future.

I owned one and upgraded to Nexstar 11GPS with XLT. I was never disappointed in the LX90 and if I was looking for a SCT in that price range, I would buy it again.

My $.02.

Clear skies,

What is the most important in a site?

Posted By Brock Ondayko

I am curious, for people who venture out to sites alone, what people do related to equipment and possibly being harassed.

Has this ever happened to anyone? What are the best things to consider?

Thanks
Brock

Celstron Nexstar 102 SLT

Posted By Brock Ondayko

I have not seen any reviews of this scope. Are you willing to be the guinea pig?

I would envision that optics in this price range will have a fair amount of error. While this scope would probably be better than the etx70, it can be no way near optically as good as the lx90. Probably ok if your interest lies in rich-field viewing.

my $.02 (worth $.005)

LX200 12" weight

Posted By Brock Ondayko

A year and a half ago I had the same type of decision. I was lucky enough that my local telescope shop had both a Nexstar 11 and 12" LX200 in stock. They let me pick up both scopes. Needless to say, I purchased the N11.

If you absolutely need the lx200 (for its features), it is a great scope, but to me, the N11 was the scope that I knew would be used more frequently.

Good luck. A great decision to have!

Celestron new 6" SCT

Posted By Brock Ondayko

I seriously doubt this telescope will be Fastar compatible, seeing how Celestron doesn't even make the assembly to use it anymore. I think the only assembly you can buy now is called Hyperstar.

Let me know if you get one of these scopes. Curious to know how the optics are.

Thanks

Saturn with C11

Ralph,
This is a great picture. How do you get your images so smooth? Mine seem to have more visible pixels. What settings, in particular resolution, are you using on your Toucam??

Thanks

Mead MTS SN8

Posted By Brock Ondayko

These we ok scopes. The pier mount was heavy. I briefly owned the sct version. The electronics were (to the best of my knowledge) based on the lx-3 system. Meade sent me the SN8 by mistake. I believe these we around a $1000 new. If the electronics are ok, I would think 500 may be fair.

Which Barlow?

Posted By Brock Ondayko

Thanks for the responses everyone!

The barlow would be primarily used for webcam. My lowest focal lenght eyepiece right now is a UO 7mm ortho that gives me 143 power, which is not too bad.

I should have known that everyone would pick the most expensive alternative! wink

Thanks
