New cooling fan setup

Posted By Scott Wegner

Very cool Steve.

I want to do this on my 10" which also has a hole in the middle of the mirror cell. Problem is that I am not an electronics guy so I have now idea of what parts to buy from radio shack or how they go together.

Would you be so kind as to give me a list of what your setup uses parts wise and maybe a little diagram on how things get attached?

I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Scott

My setup & its new home

Very nice Tom,

Your observatory is nice also. I have an 8" LX200 Classic with a AT1010 guidscope and have been contemplating a rolloff. Since I don't want to attract to much unwanted attention from my neighbors I decided to build a normal shed with a window on one side facing into an outdoor area next to the shed where the pier will be. This area will be surrounded on 3 sides with 6 ft tall x 8ft long cedar fence sections. So basically the same idea as rolloff except the scope will have to be brought out from the shed and placed on the pier each session. Not too bad though being that in the winter (I live in northern Illinois), I can sit in the shed with a space heater and operate the scope remotely while still able to see it through the window.

I will post pics when I get done. Hopefully by fall.

Again, nice work. I'm envious.

Custom Eyepiece Case Makers?

Posted By Scott Wegner

I think I saw that Teeters sells one. I have also seen a number of them doing a google search.

I am an amatuer woodworker and happen to be working up something for myself as we speak. Just haven't figured out exactly how my design will be yet. I don't want the EPs to sit in the box standing up because of the differences in sizes and keeping them from giggling around and such. Not to mention getting dew on them if I leave the lid open.

Rather, I want them all to lay down in their own little protective nooks so I am trying to come up with a design that makes sense.

Anyway, I have been doing searchs to see what others are doing.

10" Starfinder Eq

Posted By Scott Wegner

I bought one used recently (this year) for $275. It had a JMI Focuser, Telrad, 8x50 finder, the eq mount, parallax aftermarket rings, and a Magellin I DSC setup.

I took it off the EQ and made into a DOB but I love the optics (now my favorite scope).

Nice photo

Is your 350D modded? I have a 300D I have been using on and off for a few years but finally have my observatory/mount/guiding all correct now and decided to get a 350D and do the mod myself. The 350D is on the way and I will get a baader filter from Alpine when they come in (about a month away). I shoot through an 8" LX200 with a .63 reducer or with piggybacked Stellarvue Nighthawk. I use PHD and a DSI for guiding. IP for processing.

I will post some pics once I get the 350D and some more clear skies. Looking forward to it!

Again, nice picture.

M5

looks pretty nice to me Jim

Here is one I just did last Tuesday of M13. 14 x 2 min, ISO 800. Combined with 8 Darks and 16 flats in IP 2.8.

Canon 300D, 8" LX200 Classic w/f6.3 reducer guided by Meade DSI on piggybacked Stellarvue Nighthawk.

I have had the Rebel for a long time (3 years) and have dabbled but finally got my observatory the way I wanted it and so just getting back in the saddle and trying to learn. I just ordered a 350D which I am going to Modify as soon as I get it. I want to get some nice nebula shots.

Another M13

The default looks good to me. For your 3 min exposures it doesnt look like much of any trailing. I use PHD with a DSI and I just let it do its thing at all default settings.

great picture Jim

I am waiting on an ACF filter for my 350D and will then be attempting the mod myself. Couldnt find the filter available locally so had to order from a place in the UK which means it will probably be a few weeks before I get it.

Right now I have been tinkering with and trying to figure out flats.
