Help please with P2Z mount!

Posted By Emanuele Colognato

HI all!

I'm trying to figure out the correct way to set the Bubble level position on my P2Z and I need some help!

1- First I put the vertical line (where the years are) parallel to a 12 o'clock position and then I turn the horizontal line (in the polar scope) to a 9-3 o'clock position: which way do I turn it? Clockwise or counterclockwise?

2- It says to turn the bubble level until the bubble is between the two black marks......which black marks? I see one which is the indicator for the setting circle on the RA Axis!

3 - One more thing: I read everywhere that the tripod adapter for the P2Z was compatible with the FC-S/M/L tripods.........? But actually the openings on the tripod head are too small for the cylindrical tubes (of the clamps) on the FC-L tripods!

HELP!! smile

Thanks!
Emanuele

M81 & M82

Posted By Emanuele Colognato

HI everyone,
I usually don't post here but I thought I would start smile After all I have seen some of the best images here in Astromart forums!

The 15th of February, me and my imaging buddies went to 27N, both for the STS119 launch and for imaging afterwards.
The night turned out pretty good, but started with some difficulties: the Park Rangers were giving tickets to fishermen and they had their headlights right on us, so after waiting for about 45 minutes I decided to turn north and image M81 & M82.
I only got 2 hours because I was having some difficulties in Maxim.

This was the first time I was using the IDAS LPS, since 27N is in a mildly light polluted area.

24 x 5 min. no darks, no bias, no flats.

Thank you for looking and suggestions/comments/constructive criticisms are very welcome!

Goodbye Lulin....

Posted By Emanuele Colognato

Lulin stayed with us for a little while, and we all were very happy for her visit.........

...... but now it's time to say goodbye and let her go into cold space again!

45 x 1 min. no darks, no flats, no bias - had to fight with clouds, high clouds, low clouds, bonefire...etc.

TEC140 - first light - M3 and M101

Posted By Emanuele Colognato

Dear all,

I received my TEC140 at 5 pm on Friday and at 5.01 I was already in the car leaving to go imaging in the Everglades National Park, here in South Florida!
Didn't even open the box....I just left.

The night was gorgeous and beside having problems with Maxim and my new Macbook Pro, I persevered, and at around 10pm started imaging.

First target was M3.

Second target for the night was M101 - one of my favorite objects!

Exp: 3.15 hr with 15 min subs - no darks, no flats, no bias

Messier 5 - with insects and all....

Posted By Emanuele Colognato

What a challenge the other night!
Despite the half moon, me and my imaging buddy went out to the Everglades National Park. It was a beautiful night but the mosquitos, bugs, and insects where really insane. We had to wait in the car for a while because there was no way to step out.

In any case, I wanted to try a few things out with the setup. Dithering, AstroArt 4, and just fiddle around.

Before all that though, I thought I'd image M5 for a few.

TEC140 @ F7

Tak EM400
Exposures: 52 minutes total, 26 x 2 min, no darks, no bias, no flats.

Faint fuzzies around the image: upper left, bottom right, lower left, top
center...
Also the star in the lower right side of the image is a binary star: the small
companion can be seen on the left side.

Always appreciate comments and suggestions!
Thank you for looking and clear skies!

M13 in Hercules

Posted By Emanuele Colognato

The same night I imaged M5 (see post in this forum), I did some experiment with my setup, on M13.

I finally started experimenting with dithering. And also wanted to try some different exposure times on the same object to try and create a bread dynamic range image.

Enough of words, here's the data:

TEC140 @ f7
SXVF-M25C
Tak EM400
Exposures : 10x2min, 8x3min, 4x4min. No darks, no bias, no flats.

Thank you for looking and as always, suggestions and comments are welcomed!

M51, reprocessed, some input from others!

Very nice picture Floyd! Looks great to me, nothing to be said that about image! Maybe I would adjust a bit more the color on the arms as it is a bit too purple. But very slightly really.
Good job!
