I NEED Recomendations for compositing of (L)RGBs

Posted By Jeffrey Welch

Really, I'm hoping a few of you experts will give me links to good instructions / tips sites.
I'm working on K3 & Registax-processed files which I take into PhotoShop Elements.

Many thanks,

Jeff.

Whats the best RGB filter position with an F.R?

Posted By Jeffrey Welch

(Focal Reducer)
Scope side or CCD side?
Or, does it really matter?

(L)RGB compositing help needed (PS Elements)

Posted By Jeffrey Welch

I'm working up to doing some RGBs. I'm just trying to understand the process now.
I can't figure out how to do the combination of the three files in Photoshop elements.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'll be working with files from K3 and RegiStax from an Atik.
Thanks.

Question for you Jupiter watchers

Posted By Jeffrey Welch

I was watching part of the Ganymeade transit last night and I wondered, will we get a transit where the moon "eclipses" its shadow this year? I would love to see that!

Thanks, Jeff.

A dumb question maybe?

Posted By Jeffrey Welch

Why aren't there high quality belt driven GEMs?
Wouldn't that virtually eliminate periodic error? The "gear ratios" are infinitely variable depending upon you needs.

I'm just wondering as I lust after a better mount. Maybe someone here has tried it?

Ronchi screen question

Posted By Jeffrey Welch

I see these screens available from optics houses. Could I simply attach/insert one against the ground screen in the viewfinder? Between the (I'm on a Nikon F2 for referance.)

I was thinking about making a simple setup with a loupe and the screen I could temporarily hold/attach against the film rails, then focus, then load & shoot. If the screen in the viewfinder would work, that would be a heck of a lot better!

Obviously, I'm trying to save money here. If that wasn't the case, I'd just get an STI.

Thanks for any input / suggestions.

EQ mount repairs ?

Posted By Jeffrey Welch

I have a bent worm gear shaft.
Seriously, does anyone have a machine shop they trust, or preferably have used in the recent past?

The shaft is bent as it comes through the holder, looks like it got dropped or knocked over. The motor drive gear now hopelessly precesses.

Thanks.

Light Polu / Nebula filters compared?

Posted By Jeffrey Welch

There are a few LPR / "broad band" filters that are 1/2 the price of a Lumicon or Thousand Oaks etc. (insert your faviorite high end brand) version. I'm wondering if anyone here has compared them.

Thanks, Jeff.

Autoguiding with a QC4000?

Posted By Jeffrey Welch

I'm getting pretty frustrated with the Quickcam settings and I'm hoping someone can help me.

I've been trying to guide with a 2x barlowed 70mm x 350mm spotting scope. I thought that would be enough light for this camera. I can only get really bright stars (e.g. summer triangle three).

I'm using Guidedog, but I don't think that has anything to do with it. The settings screen is mostly grey'd out, and I'm not sure why. I did un-check the "Auto" box.

Will I get better results in Black & White mode?

Thanks.

Blacking / flocking a 2" diagonal

Posted By Jeffrey Welch

I picked up a nice used 2" diag. However the bare (dark anodized) smooth aluminum wasn't threaded or blackened. Looking at the moon last night I kept geting reflections, so I know I need to do something.

Would some flat paint be the right place to start? Any suggestions?
