One more transit pic....

Posted By Russ Tashbaev

Hello people! As you know major event on the sky yesterday started while Jupiter was low above horizon. My dear neighbor's trees had add more enjoyment of hobby for me sad Here I'm trying to show difference between low Jupiter and high Jupiter. Satellites was shot at crasy digital zoom of my camcorder. I was just curious if I could see anything. Looks like nothing to be proud about smile They was processed in Registax separetely and I did not bother myself with Photoshop ( I mean satellites insert). Everything is 80% of original size.
Clear skies, death to the light pollution and short-tree neighborohoods forever!!! smile

Better later than never....

Posted By Russ Tashbaev

Hi folks! Cloudy sky almost 2 months above NYC. I missed everything since sad Having nothing to do I finished some Jupiter animation right after double transit at March 23 2004. It shows more detail then at time of transit (Jupiter was too low) and maybe interesting. 11 processed frames.
Dead to clouds and light pollution!

Venus atmosphere

Posted By Russ Tashbaev

On the left 13 stacked frames.
On the right one instant choosen frame. I think this is a Venus atmosphere refraction seeing as a light-grey limb on the left of the planetary disk. TMB-175, Parallax HD-200, SONY DCR-VX 2000, Scopetronics stuff.
Actually this is the way it was discovered (Venus atmosphere) - by observing during a transit long time ago.

P.S I want to thank everyone! Image is dedicated to all people around here.
And I forgot to mention that both images was not processed at any way. Left image just stacked using Registax but no waivelet or any other processing. Just cropped and combined in Photoshop. Levels etc. was not altered. You see clearly Earth atmosphere diffraction. Original size.

Question about emission line filters.

Posted By Russ Tashbaev

Hello everyone!
I am thinking (weather permissions...) of starting to image deepsky objects. The point is that I am living in most light polluted skies in the world - just several miles to the south of the Times Square smile)) sad((. Traveling to the dark sites with tons of equipment is not as easy as it was seems to me before.
If I will spend for Ha, O-III, Su, filters - do I still needed dark site for L-channel? As far as I've seen I did not find anything about L-channel with Ha,O-III,Su filters. Or maybe it's too obvious to mention? And could I beat light pollution the way I think?
Thanks for your help.
Russ.

P.S. BTW - is anyone knows time of the next blackout in my area? smile)))))))))

My first M31

Posted By Russ Tashbaev

Hello everyone!
Finally I've start with some deepsky imaging. Here is my first attempt on M31. This is mosaic of three images. Two of them 2x15min, and one 3x15min. Luck of time prevent me from taking more frames and to make FOV wider. And no color as well since I got just one red channel exposure. And I don't know when I will get the chance to see such a dark skies sad .
There was no bias or flatfield corrections. Just darkframe substruction and levels in Photoshop.

TMB-175 APO, Trifid with KAF6302LE CCD sensor, autoguided.

Colors in M42

Posted By Russ Tashbaev

Hello people!
My name is Russ and I have attended couple starparties such like WSP2004 and BFSP2004. In Florida's party i had an opportunity look at M42 using Starmaster 20" f/? dobsonian scope with tracking motors. I've seen pink lines in Trapecium area of M42 with no much effort, nice and easy.
Unfortunatelly i didn't take owner's e-mail nor phone number.
After that I told what I saw in russian forum. Amateures astronomers there got small aperture instruments as general rule because of much lower income. Tensions of disscusions are so high, that I was told I am liar smile . I even got advise to visit a doctor grin .
Visiting a BFSP2004 I was asking a people about if they see a colors (O-III line in blue-green is not a problem, but reddish - is much more difficult to see). Some told me about pinkish color in 12.5"
I am asking for help from everybody who's interested in this phenomenon. My russian opponents pushing forward that it is impossible to increase photon flux on square inch (or millimeter)of human retina increasing the aperture of the scope. And aperture according to them does not matter because of exit pupil limitations. I do understand what they saying but I defenitely saw pinkish-red colors.
If someone had same expirience and could be kind enough to publish here his toughts and instrument set-up during observations - I will be very happy for your help.
