Canon 350XT and XTI pixel size

Posted By Edward Wiley

I was wondering if anyone knew the pixel size of the Canon 350XT and XTI. I am used to working with CCD cameras and was interested in the resolution in arcsec/pixel for various lens combinations. I tried to obtain this information from the Canon sites, but they only mention "large pixels." Or, does the fact that these DSLRs have Bayer-Array chips make the question moot?
Thanks, Ed

"Celestron 10" and "20" eyepieces

Posted By Edward Wiley

I bought a Celestron 102 spotting scope to use as a portable guide scope for piggy back photography (works great by the way). Along with the scope came two eyepieces labeled on the side with bold letters 'Celetron 10' and 'Celestron 20.' They seem to give reasonable views, but obviously not up to my TeleVue Plossls. I don't need these eyepieces, but wanted to pass them along via Astromart if they are worth passing along. Anyone know anything about these eyepieces and a reasonable value?
Thanks, Ed

Celestron ?Plossls?

Posted By Edward Wiley

I posted an ad on the eyepiece section of Astromart for 20mm and 10mm Celestron plossls [Classified #510943]. Gordon wants them, but questioned if they were plossls. Good question. Fact is, I was going by what the users guide for the Celestron 102 Widefield scope stated, but they are NOT marked as plossl or anything else. Can anyone on the forum take a look at the pictures and give an opinion? Perhaps someone can tell me how to tell from inspecting the eyepiece? I don't want to sell these eyepieces as plossls if they are not. And, if there is doubt, I want to withdraw the ad.

Many thanks, Ed

Tele Vue 2.5 Barlow vs. Klee 2.8

Posted By Edward Wiley

Hello all:

Opinions please. I "low balled" a bid on "that other place" for a "Tele Vue 2.5 Barlow" and ended up with it. I think it is the older version made back in the 1990s. I was hoping that it was a Powermate that was mislabeled and figured there was no harm is taking a chance for the price. I already have a Klee 2.8. I don't need both. Opinions as to what to keep?

Thanks, Ed

Looks like the nucleus is single. This is an quick and dirty uncalibrated image taken from Bareket Observatory, Israel; part of the GRAS system. Time is very approximate, I have not examined the fits header, but taken just after 03hr UT.

AT66, WO66 and Astrotelescopes 66ED

Posted By Edward Wiley

Any one have any information on the 66ED being offered by Astrotelescopes, an ebay dealer? It looks like the AT66ED and the WO66ED. Perhaps all are made by Long Perng? And, will the WO focal reducer (II) work? My motivation is DSLR photography and I understand that a focal reducer is necessary with these scopes.

Another possibility is the new WO70ED. Anyone tried it?

Thanks, Ed

M27 - First Prime Try

Posted By Edward Wiley

I have been taking only telephoto and wide-angle piggyback shots up until now. Purchase of a WOZ66 inspired me to crank up PHD and try a prime focus shot. Attached is a crop of M27, 30x60sec, dark subtracted, with a hit of curve and increased color saturation in Nebulosity. Moon was just past new, and this is from my backyard, not a dark site. Looks like the sky is a bit red. Processing advice appreciated.

Orion DSP 6mp or modded DSLR

Posted By Edward Wiley

I have had great fun with my unmodded Canon XSi. I was thinking of buying a modded Canon but then saw the new Orion Deepsky Pro 6.1mp. Same size sensor, it appears, but a cooled
Sony chip. So now I am thinking about the options. Any one have experience with both? Opinions based on experience in general?

astro-tech voyager and Meade SN6?

Posted By Edward Wiley

Anyone on the forum tried an Astro-tech Voyager and a small Newtonian-type scope? I was thinking of getting a grab-and-go for both my WO66 and my SN6". Just wondering if it works well with a 6" Schmidt Newtonian.

Thanks, Ed

California Nebula

Posted By Edward Wiley

I am pretty new at this DSLR astrophotography. Advice is welcome. Here is an Okie-Tex shot of the California Nebula, my first try at this one. 5X300 seconds with a Zuiko 200mm telephoto and modded XT piggyback unguided on a 66mm and G-8. Comments and suggestions welcomed!

Clear skies, Ed
