SkyMap Pro

Try the freeware Cartes du Ciel, available here: http://www.stargazing.net/astropc/index.html

CdC will interface with various scopes, including Meade's ETX line.

Saturn Last Night with TMB/APM 10" Apo

Wow, awesome shot. (which is pretty much to be expected of a multi-kilobuck scope like that!)

SCAM in progress on Astromart!

Posted By Chris Wong

Where is the scam? All I see is spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. Is that supposed to be an indication of fraudulent activity? I'm not surprised Herb ignored your "alerts."

Meade LPI??

Posted By Chris Wong

The electronic eyepiece provides only a video output to hook up to a TV. The LPI is essentially a webcam that has software to automate the image capturing process, including automatic alignment and stacking.

So much for the conspiracy theories. Funny how some people like to see the negative side of everything.

Lousy Seeing ... Or bad collimation?

Posted By Chris Wong

Darren, I was out last night at about the same time (I live in Toronto). I took my scope out to evaluate a new eyepiece I got, but I gave up after about 15 minutes because the seeing was so bad. Stars were visibly twinkling and transparency wasn't so hot either. I'd wait for a better day to really test your optics before coming to any sort of conclusion.

PC power supply and GEM mount

Posted By Chris Wong

PC power supplies tend to be better regulated than the cheapo power "bricks" commonly available. Not just that, but even a cheap PC power supply can easily give you 10 amps at 12V DC...more than enough juice to power even the hungriest scope setup. And finally, if you're concerned about interference, don't be...if it doesn't interfere with the sensitive high-speed electronics inside a typical computer (where the power supply sits mere inches from the CPU), it won't interfere with anything you might use at your scope.

Congrats on getting your money back. Too bad more fraud cases aren't resolved so easily.

Saturn with QC Pro 4000 and ToUcam Pro

Posted By Chris Wong

Interesting comparison. It looks like the QC4000 gives a more accurate colour rendition, though the colour of the TCP can easily be fixed in post-processing with Photoshop.
