takahashi teegul questions please help????

Posted By dan shoffner

i just recently purchased a takahashi teegul mount. what tripod are you guys using with this mount? i know a bogen 475 would probably be good and a berlebach tripod would work anybody using anything else? i will mount a tak fs60 and probably my orion 80ed if possible for quick looks. also has anyone modified one of these mounts to accept a gm8 saddle plate so attachment of the scopes would be quicker (obviously i also own a gm-8) thanks dan

WO FLT 110mm vs Tak 106mm FSQ

Posted By dan shoffner

does anyone have any comparisons between the william optics flt 110mm vs the tak fsq 106 or tak 102. i am looking for any reference of comparisons. i couldn't find anything recent in the forums. i know s&t had an article on the flt 110mm which reported some image shift. i would like to try some astro with a 300d and am thinking about a 4in refractor. does the extra cash justify the fsq or flt over the tak 102 for astrophotography? can a gm8 hold one of these scopes for astrophotography or am i pushing it? thanks dan

William Optics FLT 110mm????

Posted By dan shoffner

i attempted to get some response on how you guys feel the tak fsq or 102 compared to the flt 110mm but got no response. has anyone on this forum used the flt 110? what did you think? any astrophotography with it? the only review i can find is related to sky and telescope review and there was some concern about weight and image shift. any day to day practical experience? will a gm-8 hold it okay? thanks for any help dan

widefield orion with canon 300d adapted to zuiko

Posted By dan shoffner

this is my first astrophoto attempt besides a few pictures of the moon so please go easy on me. this was taken on 3/4 with a canon 300d with an adapter for using olympus lens. i used a zuiko 135mm f2.8 at f4 51sec exposure on gm-8 roughly polar aligned (my first attempt at polar alignment) modified somewhat in photoshop with auto levels, curves, and contrast (i don't know alot about photoshop). if someone can help me with the corners where there is trailing. is it related to the poor polar alignment vs lens adapter vs the lens. anyway i had never seen any astrophotos with the zuiko lens on the canon body so i thought i would show what i got so far any comments are welcome. thanks dan

Mount for a 4inch refractor??

Posted By dan shoffner

If you could choose a mount for a 4in and less refractor that you were going to do some astrophotography with what would you choose and why?
Go-to would be nice but not necessary. Are the astro-physics mounts that much better than tak vs losmandy? thanks dan

incredible shot jake! i am looking at using a st-7 vs a canon 300d. you must have some professional experience with cameras and i assume photoshop. aside from the difficult of obtaining the images how hard (relative i realize) is it to align and get final image. any references that you can recommend i just got photoshop for astrophotographers so i am trying to learn. what would be your recommendation digital rebel vs st-7. you make the canon look very appealing. the chip on the st-7 is small and i would also need a filter wheel. any thoughts appreciated once again incredible shot. thanks dan

ivan and craig thanks for your encouragement!
alex, i have put a picture of the adapter. basically it is a machined metal adapter that you attach to the camera and then you can put any om style lens on. the olympus lens have enough backfocus to allow you to get to infinity at least with the lens i have tried so far. i have a few om lens so it made sense for me to give it a shot. i purchased it from a guy in hong kong. if you want you can email me and i can give you more info.
thanks again guys, dan
