Bob:
Why not check out the William Optics 80mm with fluorite doublet? Well made scope and excellent optics. I upgraded
my SD model with the fluorite doublet and it is well worth the money. I use mine for visual only, so far, but have heard that it is nice for imaging also. Good luck with your choice.

Fujis--worth it?

Posted By George Saar

I would suggest trying a pair of 15x50 Canon IS or 18x50's. The 15's have pretty good eye relief and due to their superior coatings and UD glass they seem like a pair of 60 to 70mm binos at times. I use them with and without my glasses and they work very well. They also include female threading like a camera for tripod mounting when using them for long periods of time.
They cost around $900 +- so they are in the ball park of the Fujinons.
Try them out and you might be suprised at how good they are.
Good luck with your choice and clear skies.

Tom Back????!

Jim:
Forunately, there are, currently, many very nice apos offered out there today. Doublets, Triplets, etc. Many designed by Thomas Back. I notice that many resellers tout their glass designs from TMB. My dream is to someday own that beautiful German-tubed Gloss white and silver TMB "tank of a scope" of 105mm aperture. I keep looking on AMart to find one for a price I can afford. Amazing optics, mechanics, fit and finish and great triplet design and coatings - thanks to the efforts of fine professionals. 8)
I don't blame you for keeping a TMB on your short list of scopes to consider. Clear skies and Happy Holidays.
PS: We all miss that fine gentleman who helped improve our hobby with amazing optical designs - and a great (and humble) personality. May he rest in peace and never be forgotten.

what to get

Posted By George Saar

Itz:
I wanted more aperture for DSO's and Planetary viewing and purchased a new Celestron C6 OTA with Starbrite XLT coating standard. I screwed my focal reducer onto the back and then my SCT 2" dielectric diagonal. The "wide field" views with my TV Panoptic 22mm ep are exceptional. My planetary ep's work very nice with this setup also. For higher power planetary viewing I just remove the f-reducer. Lunar viewing is almost as good as an ED refractor which I owned. Tak sharp stars and practically no image shift. For the money, you can't go wrong with 6" OTA like that. Maybe some people out there will dissagree, but this C6 is so much better than the optics and mechanics of my venerable C8 ota. It's light enough to sit well on a Meade or Celestron Goto GEM. I could have paid more for a very good 5-6" scope, but this does the trick. Good luck with your decision.

My wife likes it and I watch it sometimes. Kind of a watered down XFiles type show. Trying to please too many
people and "not sure exactly what it's supposed to be" at times. That last one with the "sister of the scientist who disappeared into a time warp and came back" was quirky and kind of silly at times. I miss the XFiles when I watch this. cwy
It's no Battlestar for sure!

Come on buddy, you could share!

A good pic of my rescued Greyhounds. (Minus one - the big guy in the middle) - Wonderful pets! grin

They enjoy lounging outdoors when I'm doing some backyard observing
with my Teleport.
