Barlow and a UO 25mm ortho

Posted By Nathan Lidia

Hey y'all. I have a UO 25mm ortho that I use in a Meade 395 90mm. I like the views of M42 and star clusters, which is about all I know how to find, but when I use my bottom of the line Meade barlow on planets I get poor images. Saturn is pretty good at 2x but at 3x in front of the diagonal it gets kind of fuzzy. And Jupiter just won't get a good focus. I can see the 2 bands of clouds in the middle and can sometimes make out the polar caps, or what ever you call them. But it's quite blurry too. I would think my scope would hold better than 120x on Jupiter or Saturn. I was thinking of getting a better high power eyepiece or two and do away with the barlow but i was wondering if the UO 25 should hold up a lot better if I had a better quality barlow. I was reading another post where a guy was looking at barlows and I read a lot of recommendations. I was wondering if I should just invest in a barlow such as a TeleVue or similar quality and maybe 2 more eyepieces for a wider range. I just don't want to buy a higher powered eyepiece and be disappointed nor do I want to buy a better barlow and get the same results. My gosh I didn't realize I was rambling this much. Please advise. Thank in advance guy/gals.

What did I see

Posted By Nathan Lidia

Hello all. Early this morning at about 4:45 I was looking through someone's 14.5 Starmaster at M42 and a satellite or something came right through M42. I told my friends about it and they were looking but they couldn't see it with there eyes. I wanted to try to let my friend take a look but I don't think there was anyway I could have kept track of it and us swapped places at the same time. It was going to fast. It came from NE and was headed SE. I was in north Louisiana when I saw it. If there is any way someone could help me figure out what this was I would really appreciate it. Thank you much for reading.

Level for the SkyView Pro

Posted By Nathan Lidia

Is there any tricks to fix a bubble level to a SkyView Pro with tube legs or do I just need to use torpedo levels or something. The CG5 I had before had a bubble level on it and this SVP don't even have room to put one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Scope for Canon 20D

Posted By Nathan Lidia

Hey there everybody. I recently bought a 20D from here and would like to know what a good scope to use for birding would be. I just read a little about the Orion 80ED and Nikon D50 that had some really nice sample shots for us. I have a Meade 90mm f/11.25 that did a lot better that I though but abything white would have that really bad blue and purple glow to them. If anyone has use a 100mm TV I would like to know about that too. But lets start with the Orion class. The attached is from the 90mm f/11.25 scope. I had to do some Photoshop to clean it up a little and bring out some colors.
Any and all input would be great! Thanks in advance.

My first Astrophoto- Canon 20D

Posted By Nathan Lidia

Hey guys. I wanted to show my first long exposure ever. I recently purchased a 20D setup from here and used my SVP with dual drives. I don't know how good of an alignment I got but it was quick. This is a 135 second exposure at ISO 400 with and 300mm. A cheap 70-300 from by Promaster. Anybody got any tips for using this setup? I want to try to get another scope as a guider and do a prime focus with my Meade 90mm. I know it won't do very good photos but I'll give it all I got. Thanks in advance.

Bright light in the East

Posted By Nathan Lidia

My wife and I went walking this morning and there was a very bright object in the eastern sky. My guess would say Venus but I thought Venus was out in the late evening/early night. Is Venus out in the night and the morning or was that something else? Thanks in advance.
