Jim Babcock said:Sometimes I wonder if we are looking at the start of a long war between the Muslim world and the west! This point has been made by the President and practically everyone on the right. Libs have denied this since 9/11. This war started long before then, but was ignored by the leadership of the West until that event. IMO Clinton should have been the first US President to start to engage in the war when the WTC was hit the first time, but as we all know he had his hands full at the time.
Welcome to the obvious right.
Not belonging to any politcal party, this really makes me smile when the "Right" try to act like they've known better all along. It's cute.
This started long before Clinton. You can look back at Reagan's years with Lebanon and the bombing of US soliders in Beruit. Before that you had the Iranian hostage ordeal ( in no small part the result of our historical support of the Sha), the endless Israeli-Arab conflict, and way back to the creation of Israel itself. This has existed throughout both Republican and Dem regimes. No party can lay claim to being "better" than the other. Had it not been for 9-11, Bush would have likely continued to do nothing. Considering what he as created in Iraq, that might have made our country more secure
As for the outrage over a bunch of cartoons....I think it proves the cartoon correct. We satirize other religions, especially Christianity and I rarely see death threats, or the torching of buildings as a result. Grow up., bang the rocks together ( thats the secret).
We've had wars with Germany, Japan, Italy and a cold war with Russia (USSR) and yet, we've overcome those obstacles, moved past them and are cooperative allies on many issues. We never had to take them out for ice cream!
The "Obvious Right" are now, just begining to get the idea that we have a serious lack of an energy policy that is tied to reduction of oil consumption ( not just new sources of oil). They completely overstated the Iraq issue, poorly planned it, poorly implemented it and still defend it. Rumsfield said we would be welcomed with open arms, and later Cheney said that the insurgency was in its last throes. The "Obvious Right" are probably the the last people in this country who dont see that. Whenever they are facing criticism, they throw out the big L word and attack the patriotism, or credibility of their detractors.
I would rename them the "Oblivious Right"
