FedEx International Fees

Posted By Peter Haviland

I just got raped (a bill) for shipping a diagonal to Italy. I sold it for $100 and the shipping came to $69.32. I was given a quote of $22 by the pack and ship office. Any ideas how to resonable ship items overseas? I am not shipping anything outside CONUS again, unless I can find a cheaper alternative.

Need opinion on AstroMart deal gone bad

Posted By Peter Haviland

OK, I have sat back and watched this circus go on and as every one else I have my two cents to put in. For one thing I know the alleged perpetrator personally so you may wish to ignore my comments, so be it! I know for a fact that this person would not try to get by on a $65 dollar transaction, give me a break! I have had many items I have shipped over this holiday, and they have taken two to three times the shipping time. I am appalled at the petty $%#@$&* I have seen on this forum about this transaction. You should never have brought this $%*&^#@ to the forum. Take care of this with the person or go to Herb.

What did you do to work out with the seller about it not coming, or did you even give it a chance? I have to admit on my transactions that did not show up in time, I offered a refund, but that is me. I have seen many transactions on AM that if you did not request and pay for insurance then it was your risk. Over the Christmas holiday the time frame talked about for this transaction to ship is a joke! Get over it. I know I am going to get slammed for this, but I will not stand by and see this kind of treatment for someone I know does not deserve it. Please let us know if you get it in the mail! I for one will start requesting payment for verified shipping, so I know when someone gets my package. So far I have been lucky eating the cheap parcel post shipping.

As for Paypal, to each their own. I see it as good way to get cash to a seller ASAP to close a deal. I have a guaranteed/verified/checking Paypal account, and I have the basic account where I cannot receive credit card transactions, but I do not pay a cent to Paypal. To me it is just like sending a check, just faster.

Achieving focus on a FS102

Posted By Peter Haviland

1. You can bracket your shots
2. Your best bet would probably be to buy one of those STI focusers
3. If you have a Nikon with a removable prism you can look for a Magnifying Finder.

In-Focus Problem

Posted By Peter Haviland

James,

Do you have just the 1&1/4 viz back for your FSQ? On my FS102 I wanted to use the camera angle adjuster, so I had to us the 1&1/4 viz back, and I ordered a short 1&1/4 compresion fitting from TNR. Try posting in the Tak forum.

FS-102 camera mounting and focuser

Posted By Peter Haviland

Tim,

Look at the component list in the back of the manual, or you can find a copy on the Anacortes site. You will want the wide t-mount (I think it is Part #TMW0007) and the adapter (Part #TCA1030). Anacortes has these and they should be able to verify the T-ring.

You may want to think about getting the field flattener/reducer (#TFP1200), since this will make the FS102 faster and will flatten the field out for the camera. Another useful part is the Camera Angle Adjuster (#TFP1100), and this allows you to rotate the camera to compose your shot.

I have heard of people putting a JMI NGF-S on the FS102 using a Takahashi "Feldstein Adapter" CCD Adapter (Part #TCD0002). You may have some in focus issues here when using the Camera Angle Adjuster, but I think it will work. I have not tried this, but with all the other tinkering I have done I think it will work fine considering where the focus point will be.

Another option is a JMI Motofocus for Takahashi (Part #MFTAK), and this will not be in the optical train, so you do not have focus travel issue with it. It works great, especially on a shaky mount to get those high magnification eyepieces in to the sweet focus range. The only draw back is it looks ugly sitting on the telescope, but it does the job.

The last option on focus motors would be a Robo-Focus, and a lot of people into CCD and Astrophotography swear by it. I am not sure of the cost, but I think it is more or around the NGF-S. You will need to search Google to find the site.

Weird Phenomena Seen When Viewing the Sun

I do not have an exact time, but I would guess it was sometime between 5:20PM and 6:30PM EDT. It seems I was pointed up about 30 degees +- 10 degrees in the West.

Attempted Fraud - Asking for PayPal info

I just got something like this from a "[email protected]" wanting me to go to a web site to verify my eBay information. If I try and go to his site I get a "You are not authorized to view this page" message.
