GPS alignment?

Hello Everyone,

I just tried my new GPS9.25 and after 25 minutes the scope still had not linked. Is this normal or is GPS possibly unusable from my front yard? My house does block the first 20 degress of the western horizon. Any help would be appreciated.

Moon Pic.

Hi Gang,

I posted a pic in the User film and CCD photos forum of the moon taken through the the left ep of a BK. The scope is an NS9.25 and the ep was an Orion Sirius 25mm Plossl at approx 94x. I'm not making any statements, inferences, or pronouncements, just sharing a pic that I think came out nice.

Saturn Observation 1-24-04

I've had some of the best Saturn views I can recall tonight. Once Saturn rose to about 60 degrees I was able to hold the Encke minima with direct vision when the atmosphere steadied. Five moons are visible and very nice detail on the planet itself. The Crepe ring was almost glowing at times and subtle shading in the B ring is obvious. I'm in right now warming up, we've got north winds gusting to 25mph with a -5 wind chill. For the Jersey Shore that's darn cold! I'm using a NexStar 9.25, Blacknights with a 2x Barlow screwed into the bottom, and a pair of 20mm Highlight Plossls. I think this gives me somewhere in the neighborhood of 435x. I have a hard time figuring out the mags with the SCT and the BVs, especially when the Barlow is in the equation. I'm waiting for Jupiter to rise up a bit more and hoping the wind dies down some.

Siebert Optics Multi Mag OCA

Hi Gang,

I purchased one of these from Harry and had a chance to test it this weekend. I was having trouble getting low powered views when Ha observing and this OCA solved the problem. Elements 1 and 4 placed in front of the blocking filter diagonal resulted in out-travel in my 80mm f5 and an approximately 2x view. The entire solar disk was easily seen in 25mm EPs and two huge prominences and many faint ones were visible Saturday. I also used it in my Vixen apos with two inch WO diagonals. I use Blacknight BVs so EPs above 24mm or so are somewhat vignetted but I didn't see any change in the field of view when this corrector was being used. I don't think the OCA was restricting the light cone at all. When viewing clusters like M35 and the Double Cluster the stars were pinpoints right out to the field stops in 20mm Plossls at every magnification. Jupiter, Luna, and Saturn all showed sharp contrast and detail as well. The only criticism that I think is worth mentioning is that it is a little awkward to have to assemble and disassemble the unit to change your magnifications. I plan on testing it in my SCT when I get some more decent weather.

First Bird Pic with New Camera

I shot this with a Coolpix 8700 hand held up to a 14mm eyepiece in a Vixen 102ED f6.5. The dove was approx. 150 feet away. I set the camera to macro but let it do everything else on auto. I figure in about 10 years I'll be half as good as people like Tyler on their worst day!

Yellow Anaconda

Hi Gang,

This snake is 11 years old this month and is 7 feet long and weighs about 17lbs. She's never shown a hint of aggression and doesn't mind gentle handling. I've had her since she was two weeks old.
