Jim White, what's with the faked images?

Ummm. The second I saw the first image, I recognized it as a Hubble shot. Then there's the image of Saturn that is incorrect in position, indicating it was taken some other time...

What's the point of faking these images? If it's a joke, no one is laughing. If not, you are violating some copyrights.

Widefield with Nikon D100

I got a new 17-35mm zoom lens for my Nikon D100 and decided to give it a whirl for some wide-field unguided astrophotos. It was cold (11F) and clear tonight, so I only could stand about 10 minutes outside. This is a median combine of 6 30s exposures roughly centered on M31. The image is cropped to remove the effects of field rotation and then reduced to make it more web friendly. Not much done other than some levels and curves adjusted in PS 7.0 and some labeling so you don't get lost.

That sounds sort of familiar...anyway, this is my only non-Tak scope. It is on my Tak NJP mount which I had just upgraded to the Temma GOTO system. This is a 10" RCOS...very nice...and a sexy black color. The dope is me.

A deep M31

Little late for this, but I just got around to processing this data from September. This was a test of my new AP600E GTO mount and the Hutech Type II filters. It is a 130:30:30:50 minute LRGB with a Takahashi FSQ-106N and my SBIG ST-10XE. I am glad I finally processed it; I think this is one of my best efforts yet. Enjoy!

New Image: Widefield M20 and M21

This is more re-processing of old data that I had forgotten/given up on. With the scope and mount in for repairs, why not? Once again, just like my M31 shot, I am quite amazed at how well this came out. I have really learned a lot about processing in the last two years. This is a 21:21:36 minute RGB taken with a Takahashi FSQ and SBIG ST-10XE.

TOA-130 Has arrived--Pictures

OK, today the long-awaited and long-lusted after TOA-130 arrived. I sold my FCT-150 to get this scope, so it had better be good . In a cruel twist of scope fate, the skies are clear, but I don't have my rings so I can't mount it and test it. Regardless, I have taken some photos for people to take a peek at. Here is the whole scope with the dew shield extended. The silver ring is the dew shield stop and shows you how far back the dew shield will retract.

This is perhaps the single most beautiful scope I have ever seen and I also have the pleasure of owning it! Fit and finish is classic Takahashi--which is to say, unsurpassed.

Two other things: This is serial number 03001 , and note that the dew shield has been signed by the crew at Takahashi (as apparently all of the first batch were).

TOA-130 Picture #2

Nice giant 4" focuser--same as on the FSQ-106N, and with the same camera angle adjuster. The ScopeGuard finder "Quick-Release Bracket" can be seen in this picture. A handy little invention.

This scope also came with the accessory ring. I'm not sure if all of the scopes have this, or only the 4" version.

The business end. Shot close to straight-on and with a flash. What is most remarkable is how little reflection can be seen on the objective. These are obviously extremely good coatings. We shall have to see how they hold up when I can get it under the stars.

The dewshield with signatures in English and Japanese. One of the guys has signed his english name as "Rocky;" must be a nickname .
