26 VS 31 Nagler?

Posted By dan gieruszak

First thanks for all the great inputs on the ideal Televue Line up. My work horse is a 21 Pentax followed by 9mm Nagler - I have a cheap 2" 40mm erfle for finding stuff and had planned to go to the 31 mm nagler - Any advice on going to the 26 nagler rather than the 31. will I always wish I had the 31 rather thant he 26?

Still searching fro reflected light,

Dan

Access to Equipment

Posted By dan gieruszak

I'm not sure where to post this question so if it is not appropriate here please re-direct me.

Our club is in the early stages of a project to build a roll off roof at an out door ed center - one of the issues we are wrestling with is how to control, monitor, log access to the observatory and its equipment. With our unpredictable sky conditions we don't want to be too onerous yet we want to have a secure site.

Anyone have similar experience,

Thanks ...

Pentax 21xl Vs Nagler 20mm

Posted By dan gieruszak

Thanks for all your feedback regarding the Nagler 31 Vs Nagler 26... so I went with the 31 - great views last night in so so skies - found a few galaxies I would not have found without the wide views ... but now I'm not so sure about my Pentax 21 xl. It used to be a workhorse but after using the 31mm Nagler now I wonder how it would compare to a 20 or 22 mm Nagler. Any experience comparing these?

thanks again,

Dan

Not enough in focus

Posted By dan gieruszak

A friend recently tried a 35m panoptic in his Starsplitter dob and did not have enough intravel.

Have any suggestions for a remedy?

Can a low profile focuser help?

Anything other than shortening truss tubes?

Thanks,

Dan

Lunar Phase Watch

Posted By dan gieruszak

I think this is an equipment issue?

Anyone use or have experience with a lunar phase watch - I've never seen them for sale here - so I guess that means they are not much use for AA'ers - but on ebay they are listed from $16 to 50k - I need a new watch so I thought if there was anything n of use I would spring for one ... a little less than 50k ... ha ha.

thanks,

Dan

Ethos Warning?

Posted By dan gieruszak

Last year about this time there was a warning about the Ethos eyepieces - I filed but can't find now. I would like to share with my Astro Club tomorrow. Does anyone have a copy of the warning? It was really well written - and should be posted again tomorrow.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

NGC Max / Advanced aStro Master

Posted By dan gieruszak

Does anyone have experience with these older computers? I have both but not two encoders that work on both.

With the Advanced Astro Master both encoders (call them encoder new and encoder old) will work in the alt position - therefore I suspect the pin outs I have for the AZ are incorrect.

This older AAM has pinouts on the left side - and takes an odd 10 pin plug - not the RJ5 plug the Max takes.

With the NGC Max - only encoder old will work - but it works in both AZ and ALT. The NGC seems to recognize encoder new as when it is turned encoder error message immediately comes up but it does show a change in digital read out.

Thanks for any insight or help you can provide,

Dan

glue and kydex

Posted By dan gieruszak

I have some kydex left over and would like to make a dew shield for a finder - I've tried to glue the kydex to the appropriate circumference but the glue does not seem to be working ...is this a property of the kydex or has my glue and hardener been out inthe garage for too many winters? Any other suggestions,

many thnaks,

Dan
