"What the credit crunch has affected is the bottom part of the market."

In my opinion, much of this market is overblown due to the over-hyped Barrett-Jackson auctions, especially the January Scottsdale. I see cars going for twice their value there as you might be able to buy elsewhere at a different time.

There were some good bargains this year, however, so the above point might be somewhat valid.

I don't expect my A-P scopes to lose value though because they are not for sale ;-)

New SM90s - any reviews yet?

Posted By Edd Weninger

I just received mine Monday and spent some time today mounting it on my AP1200 to try it out. I'm far from expert never having looked through a Ha scope, but it was interesting that with first light I was able to see a dust-devil like prominence that dissipated over about 30 minutes. Seeing was difficult as it was about 3:00 PM.

Also interesting is that it has a "Made in U.S.A." sticker on the scope.

I was pleasantly surprised that it comes with a hard case, 3 eyepieces, the clamshell and a Barlow.

The user instructions leave much to be desired, that's why I'm here looking through archives ;-)

Scope or filter?

Posted By Edd Weninger

I'm no expert in this, having just received a Solarmax 90 and having only one clear day since. But when I was looking into it, I learned that the etalons are designed to work at a specific focal length range. You should at least check into this. I was thinking of using the filters on my Traveler, but just went with the whole system at the current price. The 90 comes with 3 cemax eyepieces and a Barlow. I don't know about the 60.

Clear skies (none here in SoCal)

That's very nice. It is probably just my laptop, but the tents could be slightly dimmer.

Thanks for the great shot.
