New binoviewers coming.

Posted By Michael Fitzgerald

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. The binoviewers were already ordered for me. Don, I guess I can get off the fence, let's see, I'm not sure how to spell them. The brand starts with Se...no Te...thats not right either, De...no I guess I can't remember. Oh well.

Lots of good info, thanks much.

This Forum is boring!!

Posted By Michael Fitzgerald

I have a pair of Orion 25mm plossls and a pair of 12.5 mm orthos. I am still waiting for my binoviewer to show up. I just checked my account and it still has not been charged, so no binoviewers on the way yet. I will be glad to post a first impression when I have something to put the eyepieces in!

Questions re: GEM to Dob conversion

Posted By Michael Fitzgerald

Bart,

You may also want to look at Astrosystems in LaSalle Colorado. http://www.astrosystems.biz/.

They do a very nice job. The cost is less because you put it together yourself. They will also finish the work for you if you prefer. I believe at least one person has a review on Cloudy Nights. I have seen several of their finished scopes (including a real nice 32") and they are top notch. No, I don't have one yet, but I most likely will go with them because they are only 40 miles from my home.

Aurora tonight

Posted By Michael Fitzgerald

We have had clouds since the Aurora has been showing off, but at least we still have color in the sky!

(This is looking east, I usually observe towards the east side and farther to the right. Sometimes I can make out two stars in the Ursa Minor!!! :-) )

My reflective family.

Posted By Michael Fitzgerald

Floyd,

Many thanks to you for posting that picture. I just showed it to my wife and she does not think my collection is so bad anymore. :-) Of course I left out the part that you are going to sell some of them. You are keeping the Starmaster though right?

Stellarview diagonal quality?

Posted By Michael Fitzgerald

David,

Our local guru looked at mine and felt that there was a bit of a problem with it. I am sorry I can't remember exactly what he said, but something about the end of the diagonal intruding into the light path? He is probably right, but I have the 2" Stellarvue and a 2" Everbright and I can't see a difference. That is why I can't remember what the problem was, it was nothing I could see.

Replacement Scope?

Posted By Michael Fitzgerald

I would get a 14.5" Starmaster/Zambuto with a Round Table Platform with some Pentax eyepieces. $3000 for the scope (used). $658 for the Round Table. $550 for the Sky Commander. $350 for the Feather touch focuser. (the last 3 have delivery costs figured in). That only leaves about $400 for the eyepieces, but I could get by with that for awhile.

(just for the record, the Feathertouch is a future purchase/gift, I just sent in the check for the Round Table yesterday smile )

Your minimum mag for splitting Double-Double

Posted By Michael Fitzgerald

Just went out and tried to split the double-double. Seeing is a bit worse than normal. I know my scope is collimated. I could not split at 79x, 119x, 133x or 158x. I finally got a clean split at 237x (14.5", f4.5, and Pentax XL 7mm. - I am absolutely sure of the collimation, the seeing is that bad here. Some of the time tonight, I could make out the bands of Jupiter at 184x, at times it would get mushy enough that I would almost loose sight of the bands.)

The stars they are a twinkling tonight!

(I live along the eastern slope in Colorado)
