Koran

Posted By John Wemesfelder

Just how many of you have actually read a significant portion of the Koran? For the sake of clarity, I'll define a "significant portion" as more than 5000 words.

Judith Miller-take your pick

Posted By John Wemesfelder

Choices are:
1) lapdog
2) opportunist
3) professional

Of course, we'll have to wait for the grand jury to tell us who wins.

Re: Goodbye to you all - double standard exists he

Sadly but certainly, at least those of us residing in the United States, have developed a tendancy to assume that we (a collective use of the word) have certain 'rights'. Those assumed 'rights' sometimes amount to baseless assertions.

In the case of the 'use' of this internet site, it is wholly the possession of an individual who has made it available to us (again a collective use). This site belongs (as a private possession) to Herb York.

Mr. York may, at his discretion set or change rules of conduct for those using his site. We (collective again) have little more right of protest than the guest in your own living room, who decides that you should abide by his rules of conduct, and proceeds to destroy all of your furniture.

Enjoy the asset provided, but don't bother to howl with outrage, 'cause you're just a guest.

Just my humble opinion.

Deja-vu, all over again

Posted By John Wemesfelder

If part of the issue of Saddam's regime was the torture chambers, and they were manned by the Sunni Baathists, then isn't it a sad commentary that some Shia now seem to espouse the same techniques?

It's not an issue of the popular acceptance of these actions by either faction. But rather, that on some level, zealots feel that this type of thing is acceptable, regardless of their religo-political orientation.

Exposure of this action by the Shiites can't possibly aid in developing the much needed sense of Nationalism for the Iraqi's

Humpty Dumpty in Pakistan?

Posted By John Wemesfelder

With the news releases that a CIA drone took out a house&occupants in Northern Pakistan, will fundamentalists in Pakistan make it significantly more difficult for the general to retain his Presidency?

Let's all play nice!

Non USA Based Moderators

Posted By John Wemesfelder

With all respect toward the gentlemen who moderate this forum, and all respect toward our friends in the Great White North, (Don in particular) I feel that there would not be a net gain in 'improvements' in this forum, were DD to become moderator.

I present the following as support for position:

1) Don has-in the past been asked to stay out of internal US politics. Speculative reason; Don is Canadian.

2) Don would be saddled with a pesky objective point-of-view.

3) DD is already moderating one forum--how much of a martyr does he wish to be?

I present the following as a contra-view:

1) Don would be saddled with a pesky objective point-of-view.

In summary--we can always use more moderation. We can always use an objective point-of-view. We can always object to any other point-of-view. DD may not be a Masochist.

(Personal Observation) Citizens of the United States seem to be very sensitive, when it comes to criticism from outside. Perhaps we need to thicken our skin---or be a little more introspective. Go ahead and fire away, I've already been called a bigot, and the title just bounced off.

Oh Really?

There's a new avatar being displayed on this forum. It's cute, especially coming from someone who does not express any interest in defending the right of free speech while wearing the uniform.

Re: Blasphemy

Unless I am mistaken, the term "blasphemy" would indicate a religious topic. Perhaps the religion forum may be the correct location for your post.

Further, I believe that you may be suggesting that 'freedom of speech' aka 'freedom of expression', be curtailed in this country.

Just "One Aspect" called outsourcing

Posted By John Wemesfelder

Well Gee Golly,
Mr Bush may be working with the government of India to minimize restrictions to immigration for those in this country, who's jobs have been outsourced. Perhaps those who have seen their jobs go to India will be given work visas, and can work at the local prevailing wage in the glorious subcontinent. That's just another aspect of a global trade relationship.

I know that I've been accused of being a "Bush Hater", but if I am, I am getting rather smug in my position. Me and countless others.

Re: Lethal Electric Fence For Our Border?

Posted By John Wemesfelder

Simply throwing a length of chain, steel cable, steel fence post, steel, copper, or aluminum pipe across the offending fence would result in shorting out the power supply of this type of fence. Despite the seemingly great need of government agencies to act foolishly, and waste taxpayer dollars, I don't see the Feds trying this stunt. Besides, the power requirements to energize any significant mileage of border fence would result in American taxpayers going to an "Iraqi schedule for domestic power consumption". But then again......Has the DHS put out a bid proposal list yet? Is bidding already closed? Was it just another no bid contract?
