Issues/Money/Energy

Posted By Michael Koons

Jim,
the key is an indirect system, it is a glycol/water mix and the differential controller jogs the system when it gets less than 37 at night. The old paint the water heater black and put it on a roof is not the best solution. There are a ton of these out there and a lot of info too! Here's a pic of the business end in the basement with the old indirect. the outside panels have a mere .3 gallons apiece in them

What a week

Posted By Michael Koons

Paul,
I actually believe this action will lead to a period of rallying, the effect of the bailout is to push reality into the future, there will be some cash to be made here, but 2-3 years out as the repurcussions of the taxpayer's grandchildren taking on whatever bad debt ensues, coupled with inflation won't be nice. The deal bought time for the big guys, and hopefully smart little guys. We need regulation, penalties, oversight and boards that give a rat's butt. For me, I bought a financial stock I've owned on and off for 10 years 2 days ago, its up about 20% in the last 2 days, next week, I'm probably out.

Nasdaq: the wall is breached

Posted By Michael Koons

Paul,
I'm not meaning to be cynical, critical or anything like that, but are these trendlines things that people(traders, institutional guys) and the like use? If so, what is normally their reaction when it breaches the upside trend?

How to get out of a mortgage . . .

$699,999,944,000 left for the bailout, how could they allow an 85 year old woman borrow that much money? Sad.......

Colin Powell for Obama. David Brooks of the WSJ:

Game over, Colin's wide reaching respect, well thought out and well spoken endorsement point out the shortcommings of the Republican Party and effectively end John McCains hopes in my opinion. I know we must vote anyway, but perhaps John could save us all a bunch of money and cease the negative ads, as his mantra is "America First"

Rep Jim Moran You Tube clip

Andreas, just my opinion, there's a lot of room between the guy working for 12 or 13 bucks an hour and his CEO making 5 or 6 million a year. I'd be willing to bet that was his point. I think the Japanese like a spread of 30 to 1 CEO to lowest paid worker, so the incentive is to raise the bottom, not rape the bottom. smile

Was America pushed?

Posted By Michael Koons

50 year mortgages, home equity loans, (new car and pay off my credit card loan), increasing credit card debt, 72 month car loans, paycheck loans, reverse mortgage loans, personal line of credit loans, etc., fueled years and years of accelerating demand into today. Maybe the oil issue helped, but all of us have helped, aided and abetted by cheap, available money. Our society at large has become the "you deserve" the big screen TV, the new car etc. Heck how about the TV commericials "credit card companies won't leave you alone, call us, you are entitled to....", not paying debts you've run up?
My parents saved and bought or we went without, my neighbors refinanced every 3 years to pay off 3 years of accumulated debt. The handwriting has been on the wall. Couple this with the global economy where Asian people making a fraction of our wages make all of our stuff. Their wages were bound to go up as much as ours were bound to go down, and become more scarce. That's why I'm a bit nervous about any recovery......prior slowdowns had the US at a major advantage with out workforce, education and infrastructure, an advantage diminished by the rise of other nations status. I think we're in for some interesting times.

Big 3 bail out

Posted By Michael Koons

You know I listened to the proceedings on Bloomberg radio, and was waiting for the response about forgoing compensation. All 3 (the Home Depot guy and Ford guy had reasons for prior comp, Nardelli got a nice one when he left HD and Mulchahy had a nice incentive with Ford year 1), kind of said my yes sir. I was hoping one of them had the gumption to say "Sir, I would be happy to take any kind of restriction that you have placed on any of the companys who have already participated in the cash infusion." which in a nutshell would be......no restriction.

That being said, I think if they file a planned bankruptcy to shed their legacy costs that they would be a far greater investment for the taxpayer's money, for a variety of reasons. Just my opinion.
