Amazing movie!Posted By Jason Higley |
Hi Dan, thanks for that post. What you are seeing are not meteors, but charged particles from the Sun impacting the CCD chip on the SOHO camera. Regarding the Saggitarius star cloud, I love seeing it every year at this time as it swings by SOHO's view. Here is a stack I did last year of it:

The galactic center is within this image (per Starry Night Pro) at the 5 o'clock position. The circular feature in the center of the image is the occluded Sun. The two bright streaks near the Sun are the trails of Mercury and Jupiter over hours of time.

Hi all:
Here is an awesome six day movie of our sun as it slowly pulls away from Mars (the bright star to its right), and then approaches the Sagittarious star fields. Also notice the hundreds of meteors, and last but not least the powerful CME exploding off of the Sun's eastern limb! http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/LATEST/current_c3.mpg
This movie is 7.2 MB, it may take a couple of minutes to download. Hope you enjoy it, Dan![]()
