I could do a better job with Photoshop than that. Pretty sloppy work sticking his head on someone else's obese body.

I think the evidence of that is pretty convincing. Those guys know what they are talking about.

Thanks

I have to admit I have enjoyed our conversations with those of this forum this week discussing issues about the Constitution, gun control, ACORN, Planned Parenthood, and the 14th Amendment. And all was accomplished without being called a moron, jerk, or worse, or me doing the same in return. I've learned to respect and better understand those whose opinions I may not share here as well.

I hope we all can continue this civility in the future. We all share our love for our country and are concerned for its future and the future of those that reside here.

I know we never agree on all the issues. But it is only with a civil dialog and open mind can learn from those with differing viewpoints and differing opinions. This week shows it is possible to do so without the need to cast stones at each other in the process.

Thanks for that.

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Demagogue dĕm′ə-gôg″, -gŏg″    n. A leader who makes use of popular prejudices and false claims and promises in order to gain power. Demagogues exploit a perennial weakness of democracies: the greater numbers, and hence votes, of the lower classes and less-educated people—the people most prone to be whipped up into a fury and led to catastrophic action by an orator skilled at fanning that kind of flame. Democracies are instituted to ensure freedom for all and popular control over government authority. Demagogues turn power deriving from popular support into a force that undermines the very freedoms and rule of law that democracies are made to protect.

The weakness of any democracy that demagogues exploit is the very power of the people to put someone in power.

A demagogue has been described as "a politician skilled in oratory, flattery and invective; evasive in discussing vital issues; promising everything to everybody; appealing to the passions rather than the reason of the public; and arousing racial, religious, and class prejudices – a man whose lust for power without recourse to principle leads him to seek to become a master of the masses. He has for centuries practiced his profession of 'man of the people'. He is a product of a political tradition nearly as old as western civilization itself."

Methods used.

The most fundamental demagogic technique is scapegoating: blaming the in-group's troubles on an out-group, usually of a different ethnicity, religion, or social class.

Many demagogues have risen to power by evoking fear in their audiences, to stir them to action and prevent deliberation.

When one lie doesn't work, the demagogue quickly moves on to more lies.

Demagogues have demonstrated remarkable skill at moving audiences to great emotional depths and heights during a speech. The demagogues' charisma and emotional oratory many times enabled them to win elections despite opposition from the press.

Demagogic oratory distracts, entertains, and enthralls, steering followers' attention away from the demagogue's usual history of lies, abuses of power, and broken promises.

Another fundamental demagogic technique is making promises only for their emotional effect on audiences, without regard for how they might be accomplished or without intending to honor them once in office.

Demagogues have often encouraged their supporters to violently intimidate opponents, both to solidify loyalty among their supporters and to discourage or physically prevent people from speaking out or voting against them.

Many demagogues have found that ridiculing or insulting opponents is a simple way to shut down reasoned deliberation of competing ideas.

A common demagogic technique is to pin an insulting epithet on an opponent, by saying it repeatedly, in speech after speech, when saying the opponent's name or in place of it.

Many demagogues violate standards of decorum outrageously, to show clearly that they are thumbing their noses at the established order and the genteel ways of the upper class, or simply because they enjoy the attention that it brings.

Most demagogues have made a show of appearing to be down-to-Earth, ordinary citizens just like the people whose votes they sought.

Demagogues commonly treat complex problems, which require patient reasoning and analysis, as if they result from one simple cause or can be solved by one simple cure.

Since information from the press can undermine a demagogue's spell over his or her followers, modern demagogues have often attacked it intemperately, calling for violence against newspapers who opposed them, claiming that the press was secretly in the service of moneyed interests or foreign powers, or claiming that leading newspapers were simply personally out to get them.

Once elected to executive office, most demagogues have moved quickly to expand their power, by getting legislation passed to officially expand their authority, and by building up networks of corruption and informal pressure to ensure that their dictates are followed regardless of constitutional authority.
Demagogues typically appoint people to high office based on personal loyalty without regard to competence for the office.

Since the only thing important to a demagogue is power, the nation and the people that bring a demagogue to power are of secondary importance.

Demagoguery is nothing new. "The shortest way to ruin a country is to give power to demagogues." — Dionysius of Halicarnassus, Antiquities of Rome, VI (20 BC).

It can change a country quickly. Germany in just four months went from a democracy to a nation that eventually would cause the death of hundreds of millions of people worldwide.  Adolph Hilter was a master at demagoguery but in the end he blamed the very same people who put him in power for the destruction of his country.

Unless people realize the danger we currently face we may be doomed to repeat what has happened before many times in history. The internet and social media have combined to make the tools used by a demagogue even more easy to implement and powerful.

I love my country and would give my life to defend it from our enemies.

But if we continue to follow the path we are on we need not fear an external enemy, because the enemy that will destroy us is ourselves for believing lies without proof, doctored videos without inquiry, and politicians, without question.

God help us if that is our ultimate fate.

The reason why we are all so polarized

Posted By Gerald Miller

If you swing to the left, ever wonder how those on the right can possibly believe there was any election fraud since over 60 courts ruled against it unless they are completely ignorant, stupid, or in denial?

And if you swing to the right, ever wonder how anyone on the left could not believe there wasn't election fraud, because even though courts ruled against it, there was never any court that looked at the evidence  and how anyone can believe otherwise is ignorant, stupid, or in denial?

If you want to know the answer, watch "The Social Dilemma" on Netflix. It's because both are right in their own realty.  We all are being feed what keeps us engaged by AI. We only hear the side that accomplishes that task. And that task feeds us the reality that is reinforced by what we click on and then directs more similar feeds that reinforce that belief to keep you engaged.

So, anyone who believes differently than your reality is less than human to be hated and who is out to destroy our country because the only reality you ever see is the one that keeps you engaged.

What happened in DC last week was a direct result of using social media to gain and attempt to retain power. Five people died, including one unfortunate young women, manipulated into believing that those on the left were Satin worshiping baby blood drinkers, losing her life because she was feed nonsense on social media. She gave her life to stop something she believed that was evil in a reality she had been fed. Many others, including those who did not storm the building, simply could not believe that the Vice-President couldn't throw out the votes and change the outcome even though legally that was never a possibility. They believed that because that is what they had been fed by the AI to keep them engaged and never saw any other reality.

All of us are subject to those same manipulations that keep us engaged. Your reality becomes the only reality and it makes no difference to the AI that runs those platforms what you believe as long as it keeps you engaged (or watching on television).

It's all about making money as the more engaged you or the more TV "news" you watch the more ads they sell. It's that simple.

And that is the reality we live in.  When we fail to doubt what we read and do our own independent research and ask questions of obvious retweeted facts day after day through social media and cable news we reinforce our narrow beliefs. So, while those on the left see a absolute reality so do those on the right even though they are exactly the opposite and of course neither reality is correct. Hence, the alternate universe each side lives in. Your neighbor may be in an opposite reality than you. Rather than hate him for it you should relish the fact he has a right to his own opinion no matter how much you disagree with him. The problem comes up because that is what we used to do; now, our realities are so polarized we no longer even consider having a civil discussion about our different views. It only makes it worse when we stop talking to each other with respect and in a civil manner.

So, think about it. Do you watch a lot of the news programs where one side is primarily represented? Do you go to websites that reinforce your already formed opinions? Do you use social media and see news feeds that AI knows you will read?

When guns start coming out and insurrection occurs like what was demonstrated last week, it's time to log off Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, other social media, stay away from sites that simply feed you what you want to hear to keep you engaged, turn off the political news programs, and go out and buy that neighbor a beer and talk to one another. We all are citizens of this great country and not the enemy. And we all must come together and listen to each other without calling each other names or thinking they are ignorant, stupid, or in denial.

Otherwise, I'm afraid that civil war is not only possible, it is inevitable, as unbelievable as that may be. In fact, it may have already begun.

SCT is way out of collimation how can I get it back into alignment?

When I had a LX200 many, many years ago, I used a reflective round Christmas ornament placed in the sun and used that as a target if you can find one. Makes it very easy to see the diffraction rings and get it perfect.
