Some more newbie questions

Wide open you will get vignetting with all but the finest lenses. As Todd said, stop the aperature down to the next value. It will require more exposure time. Don't worry about the scope in the picture. That won't be a problem at greater focal lengths. Good start.

Sony DSC-F828 7X zoom, 8 megapixel camera

Posted By Chris Nardone

I'm no expert, but I think this camera is better suited for other purposes. An ideal digiscoping camera should have a small diameter lens. The zoom of the lens isn't as important, that's the scope's job. They are making monster sized adapters for all sorts of camera's these days, but I think the smaller lensed and lighter weight cameras like the Nikon Coolpix line are best for digiscoping. I'm sure this Sony will be awesome though. I have a DSC-S85 in my arsenol and it's sharp.

Nice job. I just got a 5i. Is your toucam modified? Can you point me in the right direction to get started with a webcam?

Why you should cool down your telescope

That's a real eye opener. I have a 5i and never thought tube cooling was much of an issue in smaller scopes. By the way, great pics.

Canon 10D I usually use 300mm f/4L IS lens. This shot was 70-200 f/4 L no IS. By the way, I think one thing that really helped this picture was the 550ex flash.
Thanks

Canon EOS-10D

I returned 2 10D's before I got my current one. I had focus problems. The one I have now is great. You need good lenses to go with it. Some people maintain that only L series lenses produce good results. I wouldn't go that far.
I did read a story from one person who had to send his in to Canon because moisture corroded something in his camera. It's not weatherproof. Some of the L series lenses are pretty good about having rubber seals etc.

If you don't need all of the advanced features, look at the Digital Rebel too.
Anyway, I love my 10D and Canon acessories.

Canon EOS-10D

The 10D does have a partial metering mode which covers the center 9%. I check the display after every shot. It shows a histogram and any overexposed areas will blink white. Also, I shoot everything in raw so I can adjust the exposure -2 to +2 on my computer later. I'm not downplaying a spot meter, but I wouldn't pass on the 10D for that reason alone.
The main reason I bought the 10D was it's performance at ISO speeds 200, 400, even 800 and occasionally beyond. That comes in handy when you need a higher shutter speed.
The D100 is a great camera too. Each has it's strengths.
