Taxes: Fair and Balanced

Posted By Mike Strieber

Nearly half of US households escape fed income tax
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100407/ap_on_bi_ge/us_no_taxes

I particularly like the first line in the article. I can't think of a better way to put it...

"Tax Day is a dreaded deadline for millions, but for nearly half of U.S. households it's simply somebody else's problem."

How much you wanna bet nearly %100 of half of US households that don't pay taxes vote for Democrats? It's their base. These guys...

"The bottom 40 percent, on average, make a profit from the federal income tax, meaning they get more money in tax credits than they would otherwise owe in taxes. For those people, the government sends them a payment."

"I want my Obama-money!"

Romney-Palin; you betcha!

Posted By Mike Strieber

Oh no, not again. Romney has a chance in 2012, Romney-Palin does not. I know this will be a dream ticket for Rod considering how much he loves both Utah and Palin! The only way it could get better is to pick Cheney as Secretary of State.

I believe she can see all the national parks in Utah she wants to drill in from her front porch Rod. How's that hopey-changey thing work'n out for ya?

The voice of the left....

Posted By Mike Strieber

...is pretty much gone from this forum. It's interesting though, I've been participating here for probably 4 years or so now and you see clear changes in the flavor here over time. I recall the last couple years of the Bush administration this forum was a den of Bush-flamers with only an occasional post by a conservative. What you see here now in the form of anti-Obama posts is child's play compared to the mouth-frothing Bush hatred spewed here daily during his presidency. In fact it got so bad that there was a purge here and a number of folks got the boot for crossing lines.

Anyway, it has gone full swing again. We see maybe one, two left-leaning posters these days? Now I'm sure what you would hear from past usual posters is that the anti-Obama, anti-liberal, etc., rhetoric got too heated for them, it became unreasonable, it was inflammatory, racists, all the things you've seen anyone leaning to right here called. In fact what you see now is when someone does pop in to do a drive-by it's usually caveated with an "I quit posting here because the forum became irrelevant". That's code for "too many conservatives posting". I saw the same exact thing but opposite here when Bush was president. Exactly the same. But I don't believe that's the full story; it's not only the "irrelevance" of the forum but an indication of how your side is doing. Yeah, it can get ugly here on occasion, but come on, it's a political forum. Take PB for instance; he literally asked for the forum to be shut down because there was too much anti-Obama rhetoric going on. I think there's much more to the liberal absence than the rhetoric. I believe many Obama supporters have been let down and it's hard to defend the indefensible when it comes to many of Obama's policies. Obama has gone too far, even for many of his supporters. That breath of fresh air Obama was supposed to bring has turned into a fart. There's plenty to attack, as there was with Bush.
It's too bad though. I remember ragging on liberals posting here during the Bush days for their postings. It was a Bush-haters love fest here. Repetitive Bush-bashing and back-slapping each other for who can bash Bush the best. It did get repetitive and boring so I dropped out myself on occasion. So anyway, hopefully soon we'll enjoy a little more diversity here again. If the past is any indication the upcoming mid-terms might put some spunk into the lefties once again.

The religion we're not at war with...

Posted By Mike Strieber

...wins a battle that isn't taking place.

'Muhammad' now a dirty word on 'South Park'
"Now "South Park" can't even say the words "Prophet Muhammad."

http://livefeed.hollywoodreporter.com/2010/04/south-park-censorship-.html

Not sure if any of you are following the South Park story in the news of late reference their depiction of the prophet Muhammad in a bear suit. The creators of the show have received death threats for doing so. I haven't watched South Park in a long time but I used to. If you're not familiar with the show they continually portray religious leaders of all faiths in a not so flattering way. They are certainly equal opportunity offenders. If there is anywhere in this country where free speech is demonstrated, it is on South Park...until now. Due to threats from the religion of peace, SP will now censor references to Muhammad. Can you imagine if Catholic, Mormon, or any other religious leaders complained about SP what the response would be? I'll tell you, it would be a SP episode or two targeting that religion. But no, not for Islam, they cave.

Yeah, we hear it all the time, we are not at war with Islam, and I agree. However, this is a clear case of a religion changing a value we cherish in this country. It's really odd how there are so many signs that "Islam" is winning a "war" that isn't being waged.

Why do we provide these people an education?

Posted By Mike Strieber

I "heard" this video on satellite radio on my way home tonight. I found myself so disgruntled I had to look it up to see this woman say the words I heard. We've had a lot of discussion here about free speech of late and I do understand the concept. Some times I'm just disgusted by what that precious freedom brings us.

al-Awlaki: Calls for the killing of Americans

Posted By Mike Strieber

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/05/23/gibbs-actively-searching-yemeni-cleric-al-awlaki/?test=latestnews

As a refresher, this is the guy many of you felt sorry for because Obama put him on a list to be targeted. Once again, I guess your prefered approach is to wait until he's killed a bunch of Americans before we go after him, after all, he's an American citizen. Hey wait a minute, he was actually behind the Ft. Hood shootings, I guess that doesn't count though.

I still lose sleep over that thread; cutting a terrorist slack because he's an American citizen, holy s%*t? Talk about soft on terror... I have another good idea, how about we stop looking for Bin Laden, after all our soldiers feet hurt and the mountains are steep there.

"Barney Frank wants to see Rep. Djou's birth certificate."

Don't know if you saw this guy's swearing in ceremony and first day in congress on Monday. He was all smiles, almost in awe of the place, couldn't believe he was actually there. It was a great scene, he was certainly proud and so was his family. And now Frank comes out with this? Hilarious, and I give Barney credit for a good sense of humor. Of course that's the only credit I would ever give Barney. grin

Unconscionable Ineptitude

Posted By Mike Strieber

Past:
[Senator Obama] "...citing the Bush Administration's "unconscionable ineptitude" in responding to Hurricane Katrina..."

[from the White House website upon inaguration] "He and Vice President Biden will take steps to ensure that the federal government will never again allow such catastrophic failures in emergency planning and response to occur."

Present:
Poll: BP Oil Spill Response Rated Worse than Katrina
http://abcnews.go.com/PollingUnit/Media/poll-bp-oil-spill-rated-worse-katrina-criminal-charges/story?id=10846473&page=2

And this from that far right-wing news agency, ABC. This is too big for even the media to protect him from "Obama's Katrina". The administration's only response to this crisis is to paint BP as evil. It may be warranted, but people are recognizing that tactic for what it is...a cloak to hide this administration true response..."unconscionable ineptitude".
