Saturn 1/19

Posted By Christopher Go

Here's my latest image of Saturn. Seeing was average at around 6/10 with 3/5 transparency due to thin clouds... There is a hint of the Encke Minima while the Crepe ring is very prominent.

Stormy Saturn at Opposition

Posted By Christopher Go

Here's an image of Saturn at Opposition. Note the big oval above the SEB at the CM! Seeing was good at around 8/10 but transparency was only at around 3/5 due to haze. More images later!

Saturn :The Seeliger Effect

Posted By Christopher Go

This is a reprocess of the image I posted ealier.

When I first processed this image I noticed that the disk was dull with the very bright ring. I thought this might be due to my low transparency or there was something wrong with my settings. I compensated this by increasing saturation and adjusting curves.

Little did I know that this was the opposition effect called Seeliger Effect. David Tyler pointed this out to me. THANKS DAVID!!

So I went back and reprocessed my image to show this effect! Phase angle of this image is .08deg!

Regards,

Chris

Wanna see 10/10 seeing (link fixed)

Posted By Christopher Go

Hello,

Here's a avi clip of Jupiter on a night of 10/10 seeing! Thanks to Dr Don Bruns for making compression to make this downloadable. This is a 50 frame (10sec) avi. But it shows what perfect seeing is like. The file is about 860k.

Saturn 02/05 Storm on a Perfect Night!

Posted By Christopher Go

Finally a perfect night!! This is my preliminary image and more images later with the storm moving closer to the CM. But you can see the storm rising as a bright smudge on the STrB. Note the tiny ovals to the left adjacent to the storm!

Valentine's Day Stormy Saturn

Posted By Christopher Go

Valentines Day. I had a date with Saturn.. Well I also spent time with my wife! Seeing was only 6/10 this evening and I had to image between clouds!

Here's an image of Saturn with the STrZ Storm just after the CM. The storm is now a light patch on the STrZ slightly brighter than the rest of the band .

I spent about 10 minutes trying to see the white spot visually but couldn't make it out even with averted imagination! I guess this spot just isn't a visual object.

Chris
