Well, voting day has arrived and it is time to go and express your views in a way that actually counts. wink
It will be an interesting election and will probably indicate the way the next election is heading.
Whether your party wins or not, it is important that whoever wins does something to bring changes that will get the country on the move again.
So VOTE, which ever way you choose, but VOTE! grin

Twice!

John Boehner is crying on national TV. What a sissy! Who does he think he is Tim Tebow? That's ridiculous. Man up! :S

I like a man who is passionate about his work. He knows the survival of the country is at stake.

Food Justice!

The last thing I want to do is get into another fight with Rich and Jeff about nanny-statism and children and school lunches! But this article is too funny not to pass along. You'd think with statewide bankruptcy pending, the rulers of San Francisco would find something better to do...

"San Francisco's board of supervisors has voted, by a veto-proof margin, to ban most of McDonald's Happy Meals as they are now served in the restaurants.

The measure will make San Francisco the first major city in the country to forbid restaurants from offering a free toy with meals that contain more than set levels of calories, sugar and fat.

The ordinance would also require restaurants to provide fruits and vegetables with all meals for children that come with toys...

"We're part of a movement that is moving forward an agenda of food justice," said Supervisor Eric Mar, who sponsored the measure. "From San Francisco to New York City, the epidemic of childhood obesity in this country is making our kids sick, particularly kids from low income neighborhoods, at an alarming rate. It's a survival issue and a day-to-day issue."

Just after the vote, McDonald's spokeswoman Danya Proud said, "We are extremely disappointed with today's decision. It's not what our customers want, nor is it something they asked for."

Also, my compliments to the LA Times for an article filled with truly exceptional quotes:

"Daniel Conway, spokesman for the California Restaurant Assn., bemoaned the ordinance's passage and contrasted it with San Franciscans' exuberant feelings after the Giants won the world series on Monday night.

"One day you're world champions, and the next day, no toys for you," Conway said."

Law curbs McDonald's Happy Meal toys

How could anyone live in such a place? Regardless of what you think about nutrition, and Happy Meals specifically, do you really want the government dictating what you should eat or how to raise your children? Do you want your government creating laws that say you can't give a toy away with a meal? Is that how they should be spending their time? Is this how the people of SF want to live? Every step of their lives dictated to them? Are they brain-dead to the point they need a helicopter government hovering over them everyday, making sure they are making the "right" decisions? Are they uber-lazy people and just don't want to have to make choices and feel the govenment should be doing that for them?

I'm from California but I just don't get how we can have such a place so alien from the rest of the country. What happened in SF? What happened to bring all these sorts of people to this one place in our country?

I know I asked a bunch of rhetorical questions but it truly does boggle my mind what goes on in California, and more specifically SF. Probably the most beautiful state with the most to offer in the country, yet the most unusual people habitate it. Of course I understand not all the people there are like that but most are, thus you have the trends in California you do. If these sorts of people were in a minority there you wouldn't be seeing California self-destruct before our very eyes.
Mike

A few well placed nukes deep in the San Andreas fault could fix the California blight on this nation. wink

Down in "Religion" Doug Matulis said:

It is amazing how the lies of satan can so twist the thinking of a man and so blind him from the truth. I see very little peace making in muslim nations, actually none. While all men are sinners, I would much rather live in a 'Christian' nation than one dominated by Islam. A quick survey of the nations of the world and I think you will see my point, not that any nation is perfect.

Doug:

What you meant to say is that you would much rather live in a secular representative democracy than a theocracy.

It has been demonstrated to you many many times that the US has a secular government that embraces religious tolerance along with other freedoms. We don't need to go into that again, even you must remember the countless other threads where we proved that the freedom we all enjoy arises from an entirely secular Constitution.

Obviously you appreciate this and like living here.

Genuine "Christian Nations" where the church wields real political authority went out of fashion about 300 years ago. Good thing too, because European Christian theocracy was as ruthless and bloodthirsty as any modern Muslim theocracy.

Clearly, the most backwards and repressive Islamic nations (for example Iran and Saudi Arabia)are also the most theocratic. The most modern and free Islamic nations are the least theocratic (e.g. Turkey and Indonesia). Do you see the pattern?

I'm curious why you always try to finesse the fountainhead of US liberty and freedom? It is surprising, because the secular guarantees of freedom are the only thing standing between the government and the extermination of your own church.

Is Satan behind your stubbornness? I really can't think of a better explanation.

Jim

Actually, your wrong. I meant to say I would rather live in a nation where Christianity is the dominate religion and the population is dominiately of people of the Christian faith. I would not want to live in a theocracy.

There was an odd little moment with Spice Jet founder Bhupendra Kansagra when President Obama spoke to CEOs Saturday in Mumbai.

MR. KANSAGRA: Thank you. Welcome, Mr. President, to India. As a fellow Kenyan, I’m very proud to see that you have made --

THE PRESIDENT: Made something of myself. (Laughter.)

MR. KANSAGRA: -- India as the focus of your drive for exports out of the U.S.

Obviously the president is not a Kenyan. One supposes Mr. Kansagra meant "of Kenyan ancestry" or something.

How many right-wing websites will pop up today showing this as proof...once again? grin

I don't know about right-wing websites, but until he (the usurper-in-cheif) produces a genuine long form birth certificate like the others that were generated for those born in the county and hospital he claims (without proof) to be born at, his heritage will always be in question.
He is obviously hiding something, otherwise he would come clean.

...then why is a Muslim religious channel in Britain is allowing presenters on air to condone marital rape and violence toward women, and for calling women who wear perfume in mosques "prostitutes."?

I know the answer, refet, what about you?

Maybe this teaching comes from this love filled verse:

Qur'an 4:34

"Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more strength than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in the husband's absence what Allah would have them guard. As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them first, Next, refuse to share their beds, And last beat them."

Makes sense. Seems like the Chinese are always bailing out Obama. wink

David E

They aren't bailing out Obama, they are taking over the country without firing a shot. Well they did yesterday off the Coast of LA but we'll just pretend it was an airplane. Anyway, they are buying controlling stock in our businesses or buying them outright, they one most of our debt. One day all they will have to do is 'flip a switch' and its over.

GWB - President of the Century?

GWB looked very comfortable in his interview with Hannity and it was interesting to gain a little insight into his decision making process. I'm looking forward to reading his book.

So far, I think he is the best president of the 21st century! wink How about you guys?

Well, considering the other characters... He is the winner no doubt. O'Bama will be considered the worst of the 21st, my prophetic prediction for future historians.

Thank goodness the Dems have put Nancy P back as minority leader of the House. I kept on reading these news blogs about NanNan being "stripped" of her leadership role. Using that verb in the same sentence as Nancy P's name was making my skin crawl.

Thank is good news for the 2012 elections. More stupidity from Nancy should help to get more republican/conservative votes. Keeping her in the limelight is a good thing and provides a good source of fodder for jokes.
